Yup

He's exactly the type of midfielder this club is missing. Someone who will run beyond the striker and doesn't believe in the pass pass pass crap.

It's a shame about his injuries which is the only thing that stopped him going to that next level but even with that he is our best midfielder in the Emirates era.

Agreed. A part from 1 season, he has been very very inconsistent

Has he been injured again this season? I see he only has 11 appearances for Juve. Or is it that they know he's not that good either? Lets be honest, they would have never been interested or paid him so much if he wasn't free.

Yea and then he'd be benched for not listening to the manager. Or he'd run behind the striker and be off sides, or just leave the midfield exposed because he was too far up the pitch and not where he should be. He did that often.

If he was our best midfielder in the Emirates era, it says more about how shit that era was than how good Aaron was.

Managers shit style of play didn't help anyone. The why pass forward and create a chance when you can pass sideways style was and remains shit. It's why Ramsey didn't get to the next level as well as injuries.

Bit of both I feel. We have had mostly average to good midfielders and in our successful eras Ramsey wouldn't make the team let alone be the best but alas midfielders were shit and Ramsey was the best of them hence he got the move to a powerhouse club.

Only because he was free, and where he can barely get in the team. They know who he is.

Ramsey would do a much better job of linking up our current midfield with the attack than anybody we have now.

In terms of underrated/overrated, the numbers speak for themselves. For EPL goals + assists, Ramsey did better than Ozil in 4 out of 6 seasons despite injuries often cutting his season short.

To think Ramsey wasn't a valuable player, while also thinking Ozil is one of the best to have ever graced the EPL, is absurd.

2013/14:
Ramsey: 10G 9A
Ozil: 5G 10A

2014/15:
Ramsey: 6G 6A
Ozil: 4G 6A

2015/16:
Ramsey: 5G 4A
Ozil: 6G 19A

2016/17:
Ramsey: 1G 4A
Ozil: 8G 10A

2017/18
Ramsey: 7G 10A
Ozil: 4G 9A

2018/19
Ramsey: 4G 6A
Ozil: 5G 2A

Overrated doesn't mean he wasn't valuable, or that he wasn't good. It just means that some think he is better than what he is. No need to complicate the argument with useless stats.

And of course someone has to bring up Ozil. Ugh!!

The past decade only has 3 midfielders of note: Ramsey, Ozil and Cazorla. Nobody else really enters the conversation.

Sorry to have "complicated" the argument with the data.

There is no reason to bring up other midfielders when saying someone is overrated. It's an opinion and a bit of a semantical argument.

Any player can be overrated, even CR7 (not that he is). Rating a player is just how you personally view them and how good they are. If the majority of people give a player high praise, and then someone comes along and doesn't think that high praise is deserved, then to that person they would be overrated. No need to compare them to anyone else really.

Ozil is overrated too btw.

Does anyone know how many of those assists were the result of a corner or free kick taken by ozil

I bring up Ozil because "overrated" is a relative term, and needs to have some frame of reference; overrated compared to what?

This thread is ~450 pages. I guarantee you that there are > 500 pages in the Ozil thread talking about the optimal tactics and squad set up he needs to even reach Ramsey-level numbers.
