Serge Gnarby

Postby Goose » Fri Aug 06, 2010 6:35 pm

Some impressive stats for this kid, tall, powerfull, pacey and a high a jumper!

But read the last paragraph, oh dear!

Arsenal have taken VfB Stuttgart youngster Serge Gnabry on trial. The powerful attacking midfielder has linked up with the Under 16′s for a week-long-training stint.

The Gunners have beaten a whole host of European club’s to take a closer look at Gnabry, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the Nike Cup. Although born in Germany, Serge is the son of Ivorian immigrant Jean-Hermann Gnabry, who works as a coach and trainer for Stuttgart. Jean-Hermann took his son to VfB after he moved from TSV Weissach, where Serge began his early playing career.

The 15-year-old is a tall and powerful attack minded midfielder who can also play wide on the right. Blessed with superb pace and excellent quick feet, Gnabry also has a collection of athletics medals. His 100 metre sprint times are among the best in Europe for his age group, and other notable success has come in various high jump events.

Gnabry shone during the recent Nike Cup after a season for the Under 15′s where he’d bagged 30 goals from midfield. The player himself is open for a move to Europe and lists Barcelona as “the dream future move”. Tall, strong, powerful and with a combative all action style, Serge looks to be a real player for the future.

Lol... the boy's 15! It's not like his DNA is in Barca, like Cesc :hiding:

Too young to make statements like that. He could turn out to be shit an not even play professionally, or he could turn out to be an Arsenal legend.

15 year old??

I've got a mate who is playing for one of the best teams in the U16's division in Australia, perhaps he could go to London on a trial?

Far out..... and I thought Wilshere was the youngest it could get!

Gnabry underlines promise with flying start

It is said that first impressions are important, and, in the case of Serge Gnabry, the 16 year old could hardly have made more of an instant impact during the embryonic stages of his Arsenal career.

Signed from vfB Stuttgart in the summer, Gnabry played and scored for the Reserves during pre-season and has continued his good form during his appearances to date for the under-18s, scoring twice in three games.

The German youth international was one of Arsenal’s most dangerous attacking outlets in the 3-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier Academy League on Saturday, opening the scoring with a well-struck effort and coming close on several other occasions, and has settled seamlessly into life in North London, prompting suggestions that he could become something of a regular presence in the Reserve squad by the end of the campaign.

His cause is aided by his ability to operate in a variety of different roles. In his three games for the under-18s so far, he has operated on both flanks and behind the striker in a playmaker role, and has seemed comfortable in all three, but it is perhaps when cutting in from the left that he is the most effective as he uses his exquisite footwork to bamboozle opposition defenders.
The only problem with playing him there is that it would mean Anthony Jeffrey being left out of the team and, at the moment, the lightning-quick winger is in such impressive form that he deserves to be afforded as many opportunities as possible. He already has three goals from just six appearances so far this term and his pace, particularly when coupled with the creative assets of Gnabry and Kristoffer Olsson, adds up to a rather potent combination.

Serge Gnabry

Postby Dejan » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:11 pm

Young midfielder Serge Gnabry has signed professional terms with the Club.

The Germany youth international, who turned 17 earlier this month, joined Arsenal as a scholar from VfB Stuttgart last summer and enjoyed an impressive first season in north London.

Pace, strength and an eye for goal saw Gnabry net six times in eight games for the Under-18s, including a sensational debut strike against Crystal Palace. And the attacking midfielder was able to replicate this fine form at reserve level, where he made six appearances and scored twice.

Everyone at Arsenal would like to congratulate Serge on his first professional contract and looks forward to his continued progression with the Club.
