Management deserves credit for squeezing an extra £8million (or whatever it was) out of Sociedad. Now go and spend it on someone better !

If we invest properly the sale of Vela's clause could effectively pay for a new right-back and a back-up goalkeeper. That would be terrific business. Hopefully then we could blow all of our Puma money on a defensive midfielder, a striker and a winger.

I agree. but the question is now if this money will be used to improve the squad...

totally agree, we also have removed some significant earners off the wage bill in Sagna & Bendtner. Also a fair few fringe players like Park etc
No excuses now, plenty of money available for 3 or 4 top notch signings. But still think it's fanciful to dream of a Cavani type signing at £60+ million.

Carlos Vela: Arsenal to net £12m after passing on buy-back option

Arsenal will receive £12m from Real Sociedad after passing on the option of re-signing Carlos Vela, who has signed a four-year deal with the La Liga side.

The 25-year-old Mexico international joined Sociedad on loan in 2011 but Arsenal retained a buy-back option when he signed permanently in 2012.

The fee will give Sociedad exclusivity on Vela who has scored 47 goals in 126 matches for the club.

The striker said on the club website: "I've always said this is my home."

In a club statement, Sociedad confirmed: "Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC which will allow Carlos Vela to continue at the club on a permanent basis.

"The player meanwhile, has signed a contract extension which ties him to Real Sociedad for the next four seasons. The player's previous contract was due to expire in June 2016. The Mexican striker has now formally signed his new contract."

In September 2010 he was suspended for six months after an allegation he and Mexico team-mate Efrain Juarez held a party at the team hotel.

Soon after serving his suspension, Vela announced he would refuse to participate at the 2011 Concacaf Gold Cup and also said he did not want to be selected for the 2012 Olympics tournament, which Mexico won.

I would have liked Vela to come back but I guess other than the money the big positive is that Campbell will get more time in the team. Hopefully, he turns into a beast.

Vela don't want to be 3rd choice player at any club, he wants to be playing week in week out. He made a sensible decision.

I would have been feeling half as confident of us buying a striker if Vela would have signed, you never know what Wenger will come out with these days

The only proven winner in red and white at this club? Arsene Wenger. Sack the board.

Just seen that he now plays for newly LAFC in America now.

Strange move. Thought he's far better than that league
