A competitor will only sell you a player when they think he can’t benefit you, or they stop regarding you as competition. In the case of Willian and Chelsea it’s both.

Former Arsenal winger Willian has claimed that it was him that pushed to leave the club in the summer, not the other way around.

“My year at Arsenal was a bit complicated. I really couldn’t adapt to the club. I wasn’t happy there,” Willian told Arena SBT.

“To make it very clear too, it wasn’t the club that wanted me to leave. I wanted to leave the club. I expressed my feeling, said I wasn’t happy.

"I said I wanted to look elsewhere, another place to play. And so there was this decision to leave. There are things in life that money can’t buy, money doesn’t pay for. You have joy, happiness, peace, a solid family. I think this is the most important thing for me."

Weird that he keeps trying to explain his departure.

I think he saw Chelsea win CL in May and realized that that would have been his last big chance for a major European trophy. Hence all the talk of family and joy. You need them to cope with the lost opportunity.

I wasn't happy in some jobs I did, but I still worked to the best of my ability.

After 3 months he wanted to leave

He sounds like a whiny little shit. Exactly the kind of player we don't need.
Poor signing but great work to can his ass and get him out the door.
Great work by Arteta to correct his mistake.

Good to hear he at least prioritised his happiness over money. For things to go so sour after 3 months....something must have been really wrong behind the scenes.

Yes, but he was being paid good money so should have played to the best of his albiity not make excuses for his dip in form.

I think it's always a mistake to relate art/creative roles to regular jobs. Whether it's music, film, sports....in most cases, when a hear a person in that creative field is only doing it for the money, the quality suffers.

Either way it’s quite clear he’s just trying to play the feel sorry for me card and excuse how shit he was.

Thank god we never have to see the silly troll again.

Just glad he didn't drag his heels and left ASAP. I wouldn't say it's the sympathy card because he hasn’t said what was going on to make him unhappy or for anyone to feel sympathy. I just see it as an explanation for his shocking form and why he left so early. Just glad he left and didn't attempt to drain more funds.

It’s all pointing towards him being the good guy though, pointing out he gave up money to leave and blaming his performances on being unhappy.

I’m sure something went wrong and that contributed but let’s be real, he was completely shit apart from the Fulham game and didn’t even look like he cared. Only he can ultimately be blamed for that, despite whatever happened in the background, so I don’t feel sorry for him but I’m glad he left early.

He even got favourable treatment from Mikel both in playing time and his Dubai trip so not really sure what was so bad after 3 months.
