Anyway. At first I thought that this wasn't that surpising. But looking at Villa's goals for Barca, or Ronaldo for Madrid... they're earning their money. Can't say the same for Torres.

I think the most expensive goals must come curtesy of Ibrahim-a-bitch in a Barca shirt. 40m Euros and Eto (about £70m altogether?).

Anelka was bought for £500k, solkd for £23m. Now thats business!!!

And all that money is sitting in a bank account somewhere, so who cares? :hiding: :smartass:

Although maybe a bit serious. If anyone could work out the transfer income v ependiture during Wenger's tenure, im sure it'd be shocking reading...

Earlier in his tenure it was actually a net spend.

I remember looking at the financial reports awhile ago, but they only went back to 04/05.

For example in year end May 2004 we had a £12m net spend and a net spend of £8m in 2005. Will be interesting to see what happens the rest of this fiscal year and what the results are next year when they're released.

FYI, the fiscal year at Arsenal runs from June 1 to May 31. So this summer's information will not be available till next year's report. They have been doing a 6 month report the last few years though.

CONCLUSION

Torres remained at Chelsea for four years before being loaned out then sold.

Assuming he was paid by Milan during his loan spell there, and that is by no means certain, his wages at a reported £170,000 per week for four years came to around £85,300,000.

(The financial details of his leaving Chelsea are unclear, as is the issue of whether or not a transfer fee was paid. I would guess not.)

This is in addition to the £50,000,000 transfer fee paid to Liverpool,

(135,300,000)

He scored a total of 45 goals at Chelsea, costing a grand total of

ABOUT £3 MILLION A GOAL

f***ing LOOOOL

but wouldn't it be £85,360,000 (£50,000,000 + £170,000 * 52 weeks * 4 years = £85,360,000) divided by 45 Chelsea goals = £1,896,888.89 per goal?

Still, that's appalling

His goal didn't matter. Chelsea were through regardless of whether or not Torres scored.

The response is easy. You support a plastic club with no history, hardly any pre-Abramovich fans and a plastic future built on oil and mercenaries. If you go shopping in a trophy shop with a billion pounds, you're bound to end up with a few trophies. Meanwhile, none of that changes the size of the shambles that Torres was for Chelsea.

Bump

How out of date does this thread feel now?

£50M fee and £170K a week wages for a top striker

Bargain!

The whole £/goal metric made sense in 2010, but not now, when £50m for a PL CB is considered 'fair'.

Torres scored the winner in the 2013 EL final and was a scoring member of their successful FA Cup + CL campaigns in 2012. Meanwhile, Lukaku at Utd has probably beaten Torres' goal haul, but has zilch to show for it.
