Good decision by Arteta and Edu to walk away from the deal weeks ago.

Didn't want to be dragged into a wasted effort. Glad we're learning from our previous mistakes.

Learning to repeat them over and over? When other clubs have signed 5 of their targets already, just what exactly do you think we have learnt?

That some fans are still stupid enough to believe the hype? even after five years of utter "we tried to sign" bullshit?

It never made sense in the first place. We don't need him and his agent would have been smart enough to see that he'd have to share game time with Saka. A complete waste of time and I don't know why fans thought we needed him in the first place.

We don't need quality players?

If a player of Raphinha quality is available, you go all in.

Liverpool didn't need Diaz in January. He's been a revelation.

It's a squad game

Liverpool sold Mane who was a first team starter and getting on in age. We'd eventually have to make a similar adjustment for Raphinha. There is no way to play Saka, Raphinha, Pepe and develop Marqinhos plus keep them all happy.

Add to the fact that we may play Jesus there on occasions to accommodate Nketiah. Shift one of the right wingers to the left and we're taking away game time from ESR and Martinell.

In terms of quality, Raphinha scored 11 goals last season and 8 the season before when Leeds looked a much better attacking side than Arsenal. He's not the sort of player I'd uproot Saka for. If this were Gnabry or Raheem Sterling, someone of better quality with the history to back it up...then I'd consider it.

Liverpool knew Mané was angling for a move to Bayern by declining to sign a new deal, so they very much needed Diaz.

Chelsea are also getting snubbed here, despite being able to obliterate the salary that Barcelona were able to offer due to their financial turmoil. Also unlike Arsenal, Chelsea were able to offer him UCL football—and still they missed out.

Ultimately, this is just a case of the player preferring to move to Barcelona, rather than Arsenal or Chelsea. The reason it's taken so long is Barcelona needed to make a few sales before they were able to legally finance the deal.

There’s no learning, it’s the same pattern time and time again, spend weeks/months apparently going after someone only for it to lead to nothing.

Same thing happening with Martinez, it’s not missing out on the player that bothers me it’s the same pattern over and over again.

Whenever we get linked with bids take it with a pinch of salt as these rarely happen.

Yeah i agree, its incredibly frustrating.

players like Raphinha and Lisandro could easily become world stars.

Has Saka signed a new deal yet? you really think he will stay next summer if we're still a mid table squad?

We walked away from the deal because the hierarchy had a feeling he yearned for Barca. Instead of staying with him and trying to persuade him we've moved onto other targets.

Good decision.

he made it clear from day 1 he wanted to go to barca.. we still ended up spending weeks trying to get him. so what are you trying to say? almost sounds like you're a paid PR shill hired by the club. now thats something barca has done in the past.

We made a bid. Barca and Chelsea entered.

When we caught whiff of him wanting Barca so we walked away with plenty of time remaining to get other targets.

What's so difficult to understand about that?
