Great success at mid level clubs, fall flat on their face at big clubs .........that is to do with charisma and a level where you can manage big ego stars.
Fergie had it, Wenger had it, Mourhino used to have it, Klopp has it, Pep is probably the king at it.
Emery I think likes honest, hard working players who don't have their head up their arse and are willing to take and respect his instructions ...... which is what hungry players at mid level clubs will do.
Top stars at the Bernabeu or City etc you need to show them you're bigger than them, that the board back you 100%, that the level and standard is at or beyond them, that they're lucky to be there ......one sniff of weakness and your toast as a manager at clubs like that, I think Emery is to nice for that kind of environment.
Wenger aside, this is a list of managers at a cartel of clubs that can outspend everybody else. Wenger stopped winning the second Abramovich arrived. Arteta snuck into the CL 19 years later when Abramovich left and Chelsea collapsed. Coincidence?
Emery's beaten Bayern with 3 different clubs. Arteta on the other hand hasn't managed it ever.
Your idea of a successful manager appears to be somebody who doesn't win trophies but puts up a good enough effort in the league.
It's almost as if Emery never managed us.
We have first-hand knowledge of him not being good enough.
Villa will finish outside the top 4 this season, I suspect.
He's in that bracket of managers who are settled at the level down from the best and manage teams outside the best.
Moyes level...i.e. good manager if you put him in a position to overachieve at a smaller club.
