Messi's Spanish jail sentence for tax fraud to stand

In its decision on Wednesday, the court said: It defies logic to concede that someone who earns a large income does not know that he must pay taxes on it.

Both men were originally convicted of three counts of fraud, for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay between 2007 and 2009, and were also given heavy fines.

They were found guilty of resorting to fictitious companies to evade Spanish taxes on income from companies using Lionel Messi's image rights

What a disgrace. I mean this man makes more money in a week than majority of the people manage to do in a year and has absolutely no shame in trying to evade taxes in a fraudulent and disgusting manner. Basic morality evades this shameless stinking rich footballer.

A lesser man would have ended up spending his time in prison but funnily enough the sentence is just short enough for him to get away. Disgrace.

Lol what an awful 12 months or so it's been for Messi.

Got the winner in the El Classico though.

Given that the sentencing is in Barcelona, he certainly won't be sent to prison so he has no need to call Joey Barton and ask for some tips.
