Arsene Wenger, via E-Mail wrote:Dear Supporter,
We were in control of Saturday's game at Fulham for the full 90 minutes. We gave a strong performance, scored an early goal and defensively we did not give chances away so overall I am pleased at the way we responded to the disappointment last week. The team showed they can come back in a big way.
The first goal was important at Craven Cottage. Fulham played with a congested midfield so it was important for us to break through and we did it on the flanks. We scored three goals through crosses and that is quite unusual for us. But it shows we have variety in our game that allows us to deal with any resistance we get.
Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice but he would have been in Ghana if Togo had qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations. He was disappointed when Togo did not qualify but he is a mentally strong-willed guy anyway and you could see that in his game on Saturday.
Of course having Adebayor around helps us but I feel that we still have players who could cover him when he is not available - Bendtner, Eduardo and Walcott. So even if Adebayor had gone to Ghana I am not sure I would have been in the transfer market.
One thing is certain - Adebayor loves to play. In fact sometimes he loves to play so much that he is not where he needs to be on the crosses. He likes to touch the ball and that drags him out from where he can be lethal. On Saturday he was focused on staying central and that is where he is more dangerous.
He has an unbelievable jump and his timing on crosses was right against Fulham. He hangs in the air and he proved once again that you don't have to head it very hard to score. Of course you need good crosses to score with headers and both deliveries from Gael Clichy and Alex Hleb were excellent. Clichy's crossing has improved tremendously. He is much better than he was one year ago, much cleaner technically.
You might have noticed that I didn't use any substitutes on Saturday. That was because we were 2-0 up and looked in control. If Fulham had scored I would have changed something. But the players who did not play at Fulham will play on Tuesday so they had a good breather.
Thanks for your support.
