Aston Villa Vs Arsenal | Premiership 01/12/07

Just watched the replay on MOTD.... Villa deserve some credit here! They battered us for most of the second half.

In hindsight, that was possibly the best won three points of the season, given that Villa never laid down to die.

If ManUre slip up on Monday, the gap will be more than pleasing!

This game spoke volumes...

Before the kick-off we knew this was going to be something of a game and it sure was, both Villa and Arsenal diddn't dissapoint.
after going one-nil down Arsenal showed a master class in football getting two goals before half-time making sure we went into the break ahead of a solid looking Villa.
Flamini, Hleb, Rosicky and Adebayor were great in the first half causing Villa trouble here there and everywhere. Flamini's goal was a cracker and it gave the players that little extra boost, in the last 15 minutes on the first-half and we all could see that the second goal was coming.
Adebayor played alot better than previous games and it was good to see him score, the goal also puts him joint top scorer in the league.
It was a great goal which was created with great build up play with the perfect cross taken with the perfect header.

In the second half we saw a diffrent Arsenal, not a team who couldn't get going nor was it a team who looked shakey and despratily held on for three points, it was a team who got stuck in and kept an ever present Villa at bay. Villa have been on great form in resent weeks and it was no suprise for them to come out and battle hard but a solid Arsenal defence did the job (with a bit of luck at times aswell) but you need to have that luck sometimes.
In most games this season our second half perfomance has won us the game because of late goals but this time our second half perfomance won us the game for diffrent reasons, its been said already in past seasons we would have crumbled but once again we proved we have grown up and have more than just the one style of play.

Next up Newcastle away and although they seem to be having a hard time of late this wont be an easy away game but one im fully confident of getting 3pts...

COME ON ARSENAL

So happy we won :D

No need to apologise we all do it now & then!
Great post again Rodders, what have i got to do to convince you to get your arse on on here all the time???

Great game yesterday, for once i wasnt nervous when we went 1-0 down, knew we would come back from it even without Cesc holding the midfield.
Anyway i think relief is the word needed until Ade scored that stunning header, (not a bad equaliser from Flams either!) Villa certainly well up for the challenge & were admittedly the better side in the 2nd half, as said by many posters & pundits alike, it was a game of 2 halves.

Hleb got MOTM & thoroughly deserved he worked his socks off & took the piss out of villa on many counts, personally i think it was after Alex went off is when we went a bit flat.
(still no news on his injury.) :(

Still at the end of the day Job Done! 3pts in the bag, Top of the League & STILL UNBEATEN!

How sweet is life for us Gooners! Cant Grumble! :005: :trophy: :goonergirlie:

I would rather convince you to come back to FSF, we miss you on the forums

Totally agree with you about Hleb and lets hope that he is back for Wednesday, as apparently Cesc won't be playing again.

Life is great :D All together...

WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE :D

Great first half performance.
Helb was outstanding again.
Diarra passed the ball well, Flamini was all over the pitch and Sagna gets better and better.
Dreadful defending by Clichy for their opener
Flamini, who was partly to blame for their goal too, scored with a scorching shot.
Great header by Adebayor for our second goal.

Sloppy second half performance.
We couldn't hang onto the ball and Villa upped the tempo.
Almunia was really f***ing me off!
He'd catch the ball and, instead of taking his time and slowing the game up, he'd launch it straight down the middle and back Villa would come.
Villa are a decent outfit so surrendering possession like that was criminal.
We nearly nicked an undeserved 3rd at the death, when Bendtner flicked on but Walcott slipped.

Very, very happy with that result!

Via E-Mail, Arsene Wenger wrote:Dear Supporter,

We were brilliant and resilient at Aston Villa on Saturday. Villa had a lot of belief in their side so to take the three points needed something special.

In the first half I felt we were absolutely amazing. We moved the ball quickly, we were accurate in the short spaces and we could play the ball through the eye of a needle.

Why did we lose our game in the second half? Well I think that was down to the physical commitment of Villa and the fact that some of my side dropped off a little bit. Even at the end of the first half I felt we became a little bit easy.

John Carew was a handful. They played with four strikers and were very direct. We were tested but we handled the problem well.

I suppose another reason for dropping off is the fact that we lost Alex Hleb at the start of the second half. He is a specialist in this kind of passing.

He had a kick on his Achilles. Alex had a hamstring problem before the game but we decided to play him. He had a little recurrence and I am not sure he will be available for Newcastle on Wednesday night.

That is my worry at the moment, we lose players in every game. I hope we’ll get them back soon.

Games like this one at Villa used to be a problem for us but we are more resilient and have more experience these days.

It was also difficult because we were coming into this game on the back of a defeat. When you have a set-back the way the team responds can have a big impact on the season. But the way we played showed that it did not bother us..

We had an opportunity to strengthen our lead in the Premier League and we did it. We have another one at Newcastle on Wednesday and we want to take advantage of that. It is a very big week for us.

Thanks for your support.
