Pleguezuelo signs professional contract



Young defender Julio Pleguezuelo has signed professional terms with the Club.

The 17-year-old has been a mainstay of the under-19s and under-18s this season. He helped Arsenal reach the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals, and has played a key part in the Club’s FA Youth Cup run, which now sees them face Chelsea in the semi-finals.

A Spain youth international, Pleguezuelo joined the Gunners from Barcelona in summer 2013.

Everyone at Arsenal would like to congratulate Julio on his first professional contract and we look forward to his continued progression with the Club.

Have you watched him play? I'm assuming the only reason your comparing him to Miquel is because he is Spanish?

Your argument is also pointless. You could say that same about Randall, Frimpong, Merida, Henderson, Lansbury etc. All hyped to be big players, yet never made an impact in the first team.

Interested to hear where you heard that? I follow the youth team a lot and he's rated very highly along with defenders Bellerin and Maitland-Niles.

No, but after getting my hopes up over Senderos, Nordveit, Vela, Miyaichi, and co I'm not getting excited about signing another kid!

No ones getting there hopes up. Just saying he has massive potential and it's positive for the future. The players you mentioned were never overly hyped, apart from by the media. Bar Vela none of them were really predicted to have a guaranteed future in the first team.

Pleggy is in the same bracket as Bellerin and Maitland-Niles for defenders. Needs to toughen up a lot, but his reading of the game and technical ability is very good.

Our current youth set-up is probably the best we've had for some time. Crowley, Toral Zelalem, Bellerin, Pleggy and Moore especially stand out a having a break shot at breaking into the first team.
