Every politician in the world will happily "admit mistakes" for stuff they know the public doesn't hold them responsible for. That looks magnanimous, paternal even. If they admit mistakes about things the public does expect from them, then that's an admission of failure, it's fatal and Arteta will never do that.

Take the Pepe example you cited. Arteta is saying "I'm sorry Pepe is so shit" and not actually admitting any mistakes with his "We all know Nico" comment. He's not taking any responsibility for his performance either, unless the £7m contract termination and subsequent PSR loss somehow didn't land on our books.

Extend this example further with signings like Havertz and Sterling. Ask yourself, is Arteta ever going to admit what a massive fuckup that was? Of course not, he had full control of those decisions. They're "his" players, Pepe and several others were not.

Same with the title. He can't have pithy stock responses ready for the media because he's getting paid too well to handwave away the mounting criticisms .

It's possible, but it would be a dumb move. PIF wants Mourinho, but he won't be given money to spend because of PSR, and will fall out with half the team. Howe on the other hand has managed to integrate the big money players with Steve Bruce-era players, very few managers can do that.

If PSR is changed, though I cannot see it as those that would want it changed would be outvoted by those who don't, then Toon will be a major force. and probably win and challenge like they should have done under Sir John Hall and Sheppard in the 1990s. Even if PSR goes, then UEFA FFP still is in place, so that will still stop them or us or anybody else spending big.

Very funny hearing people claiming we are somehow disadvantaged by not having a middle eastern owner. Our stadium is called the Emirates and our training ground the Sobha Realty Center.
