Fair play to the guy I think that's 5 goals in 8 games, so he is doing well for a midfielder, better return than strikers we have had recently up front, so is Merino a fluke or are our strikers really that poor, Imo it's the latter and it's something that needed addressing a couple seasons ago at least.
Berta bring this group a worldie and if we can keep the group together we will see success, I fear some of the group may get their heads turned though.
But we'll done Merino been better than my expectation but imo proved a very valid point our strikers are shit

He just has that right place at the right time, speculative-lucky shooting, chance-taking vibe

should have never been a midfielder, but makes sense that he would develop as such in Spain with possession based football. Any other country and I think youth coaches would have put him up top

So-so CM, who is doing OK as a makeshift/auxiliary ST.
At this rate, he'll get nearly 10 goals in all comps.

he could be a handy back-up ST. but by no means can he ever be our number one.

He's proven he can do a job, we always need contingencies. but that's all he should ever be in attacking options.

If he keeps scoring at this rate, goal a game, we'll need to find another no8, because he'll then be considered a genuine striker. There's no question about it. He would have by then , mastered the art of poaching.

Is he levels? no. he did little in midfield and isn't that much compared to Rodri or Zubamendi but he should be praised for his contributions right now.

He's managed to score with his head and feet despite limited service so that's the best we can hope for.

During this time, he also scored for Spain in their 1st match against Netherland and the first to take penalty (and scored) in their 2nd match.
