Would assume so with Luiz, Mustafi, and Mari being out, but Holding might get the nod if Arteta wants to ease Saliba in.

We probably had a thread like this for Djourou and Senderos back in the day lol

Tbf Senderos was very good in our CL run back in 05/06 and the Carling cup run during 06/07 and Djourou was a monster in 2010/11 but he was never the same after the injury. They both showed signs of being good enough at one point or another.

Gabriel and Saliba just look like the archetypical modern defenders—tall, fast, strong, and good on the ball. Excited about the pair of them.

Bit worried Arteta might not be keen on Saliba tbh.

Well if he's good enough then he will be, if he's not then he won't. So doesn't really matter if you want this fantasy partnership, they have to make it work otherwise likes of Holding etc will play for now with Gabriel.

Worth remembering how young he is, how long it's been since he's played regularly, and his injury record last year. He'll have chances to impress I'm sure.

Arteta made a point a while ago of saying Saliba had stayed back in the summer to prepare, with the injuries at the back I was surprised he wasn't even on the bench. I guess time will tell!

Stop wrapping these two in cotton wool. Can't be any worse than Holding and Luiz.

Circa £60m spent and one of them is playing in the u23's.

Both gone next summer?

Big money buys. Arteta doesn't trust them.

I agree, but Luiz is still very much needed. His long balls are class and he's played well the past games.

It should be:
Saliba -- Luiz -- Gabriel

Tierney as LWB and AMN/Bellerin as RWB is the way to go.

Yup. I wanted to see this in the Liverpool game (albeit Holding for Saliba). Tierney is great going forward. Niles is wasted on the left as he constantly has to check back in side.

I'd like to see this in our next games.

All this nonsense of easing Saliba and Gabriel in... There's no fans in the stadium. Can't get much easier setting than that... No jeers from DG and his cronies if they put a foot wrong...

If Saliba does go to Rennes on loan for a year, would this thread qualify as a long distance relationship?
