Reyes to Atletico?

Postby Trina » Thu May 24, 2007 5:35 am

Arsene Wenger has held direct talks with Atletico Madrid about offloading Jose Antonio Reyes, according to media reports.

EFE claims the Arsenal boss has been to the Spanish capital to negotiate a permanent switch for the Spain international, only weeks after Atletico declared they were not interested in his services.

Reyes joined Real Madrid on a loan deal at the beginning of the season, with Julio Baptista moving the other way.

However, neither player's loan spell proved successful, with Arsenal agreeing that Baptista will return to Spain and Real Madrid stating they are not interested in signing Reyes on a permanent deal.

Reyes has also made it clear he would not welcome a return to English football in the summer, as he struggled with the climate and family problems while in London.

As a result, Arsenal now want to get a deal arranged as quickly as possible so Wenger can begin searching for a replacement.

And it is believed Atletico Madrid could now be ready to bring in the former Sevilla star, which could pave the way for Martin Petrov to leave the club.

Tottenham are said to be interested in the Bulgarian, who has spent the majority of the current campaign on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.

Let's hope we can wrangle as much cash as possible out of this.

Has Arsenal officially agreed to Baptista returning to Real?

Whomever comes in as replacement, for God's sake, don't complain about the weather!

Cant see us making a profit on Reyes transfer, but hope we do recover a substantial amount of the cost.

Reyes dont like england & dont suit the prem, got nothing against him & hope he does well wherever he ends up.

I think it would be wrong for him to return to us, not just for him but for the club too, so lets hope its sorted in this window.

Baptista is history. Glad we had the opportunity to see what he'd be like over here before making any deal permanent at leats we havent lost out.

Having said that most players take a year to adjust, and how he would have done had we kept him on is something we'll never know.

Id be more than happy if we could pull that one off! However some sources are claiming that Wenger asked of Torres availability while trying to tie up a deal with Athletico for Reyes, but Freddie & Hleb were offered.

But the sources' arent exactly the most reliable....tribal football being just one.

Ive heard the rumours about Fernando & Liverpool too, its been claimed that he himself has come out & said the only team he would play for in England is Liverpool, like everyone (mainly scousers) will have us believe that all linked players have been quoted as saying the like: David Villa, Eto'o, Sabrosa, Daniel Alves, Iaquinta & Tevez.

Cant see them getting the lot, prob Alves & Tevez.
