Summer Priority: Offloading Players

Postby alexafc12 » Sun Aug 02, 2020 3:05 pm

Just listening to the latest Ornstein podcast. Club's summer priority is to 'aggressively move on' as many as 10 players.

Arteta wants to bring in 4 players with this money:

1 x CB - DONE (Gabriel)
2 x CM (incl. Ceballos) - DONE (Ceballos, Partey)
1 x CAM / 1 x Winger - DONE (Willian)

Club will look to move on / listen to offers for the following:

Defenders
Sokratis
Mustafi
Holding
Kolasinac

Midfielders
Elneny
Sheaf - DONE
Guendouzi - DONE (loan)
Torreira - DONE (loan_
Ozil
Mkhitaryan - DONE

Forwards
Lacazette
Nelson
Balogun

Isn’t Micki already going to Roma on a free?

Great news. I like the way Arteta is sorting out the club.

I think he still has one year on his contract with us, so Roma still has to buy him from us.

Mhiky's loan has been, or will be renewed. He will be on loan till 2021 and then leave on a free. I don't think we're getting a fee for him.

I think we're in a position where there are only a select few players we wouldn't sell (e.g. Saka, Martinelli). Players like Xhaka or Maitland-Niles, for example, have been big players for us but if we got a big bid in for them (a la Iwobi) then we'd likely consent to a sale.

The following players really should be sold, if at all possible:

- Ozil
- Guendouzi
- Mkhitaryan (think he's already gone)
- Elneny
- Kolasinac
- Sokratis

I like Sokratis but it's clear Arteta doesn't rate him, plus he's in the last year of his contract so this is the last time we'll be able to get a fee for him. Big wages too. He may opt to stay though, in which case I can see Rob Holding leave instead as he's the only other centre-back we can realistically sell. I'd also not be surprised to see Lucas Torreira leave if we received a decent bid from someone like Milan.

i wouldve include AMN but i think if he's dediated to becoming a full-back he can be a huge asset for us. i know huge firesales to first teamers is unlikely but if we could raise cash from all these players & add some real quality as well as some youth promotions (ESR, Reiss,, Eddie, Willock etc getting regular cup minutes) then we should be in a good position for a much needed rebuild. bold are must sells, but more than happy to keep the non-bolds around if theres no good bids. obvs getting ozil out will be impossible

Sokratis - £2-5m - 100k/pw freed
Bobby Holding - £15m - 50k p/w freed
Chambers - £15m - 60k p/w freed
Kolasinac £5-10m - 120k p/w freed
Ozil - £0 - 350k p/w freed
Lucas Torreira - £25-30m - 70-80k p/w freed
Matteo Guendouzi - £20-25m - 50k p/w freed
Alex Lacazette - £30-35m - 120k p/w freed
Mo Elneny - £5m - 60k p/w freed
Mkhitaryan - £0 - 200k p/w freed

Chambers has a serious injury, no chance we sell him this summer.

An aggressive clear out is something I have advocated for some time - many years.
If Ornstein is correct, it is welcome news. Finally.
We need to get rid of about 20 players - but 10 would be a good start.

Would Aubameyang still be on your list?

Guendouzi and Torreira for about £50 mil wouldn't hurt and seems realistic. I don't think we could get £15 each for Holding/Chambers but if we get £20 for both I'd be very happy with that. As for the rest, i don't think anyone will want them.

Still that's a decent amount of money to work with this transfer window.
