People choose to overlook the obvious. When so many players are inconsistent or out of form at the same time there can inly be one reason.

He needs a player next to him that can control the tempo / and give him time on the ball. Lokonga struggled yesterday positionally. Always looks better with Xhaka next to him.

Had nothing to do with who was next to him last night.
His control was poor, passing poor, tackling poor and he was too easily dribbled past and/or robbed of possession.
Lokonga did a decent defensive job yesterday, but lacked any kind of creativity going forward. He certainly had nothing to do with Partey's individual errors.

The performance yesterday was all about individual errors in possession, nothing more complicated than that. It was brought about by Brightons relentless pressing game. Partey - and others - have to learn to deal with that. At the moment he looks far too lightweight under pressure.

He is better than Xhaka in ball control and passing, which is the bare minimum expectation whenhe arrived.

For £45m and £200k pw til he's 32yo, it's a complete ripoff, as bad a deal as BW or Pepe were.

That makes it 2 in 2 for Partey. (Not sure what the goalkeeper was doing, though.)

Just need to play against Kepa every week and he’d be a machine!

Am I the only one who thinks he sometimes tries a little too hard to hit top bins?

Several professional players have mentioned that, when taking long distance shots, the best area to aim for is to aim halfway between the middle of the goal and the goalpost. This allows for a larger margin for error, which not only increases the chances of hitting the target, but also of scoring.

He shouldn't be anywhere near FK duties for us, regardless of how good he might be for Ghana NT.

Lacazette, Pepe or Auba are all better suited to taking direct FKs.

Was talking about shots from open play.

Suppose you're proposing something akin to pro golfers who don't aim for the hole with every shot. Instead they aim for an area on the green the size of an umbrella, giving them the best opportunity for a successful shot instead of 'going for glory'. Would make sense for most players to just hit a target smaller than top bins, with keepers parrying and the ball movement, gives a chance of a rebound which you don't get if you miss the target

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, you can't possibly aim to be so precise from distance, more of a "ballpark area" you aim for.

Should do, for the flashes of brilliance he has there's a load of inconsistency and shit performances to come with it. As expected, people looking better than they are in that Atletico team.

Had a decent run in the team now and doesn't look any better.

He needs a proper DM next to him. It's like having Vieira without Gilberto or Petit.
