Pablo Marí

Postby Jedi » Sat Jan 25, 2020 1:11 am

Nationality: Spanish
Date of birth: August 31, 1993
Preferred position(s): CB
Parent club: Flamengo

Flamengo defender Pablo Marí is very close to transferring to England's Arsenal. The European club looked for Rubro-negro, who gave the ok for the negotiation - accelerated throughout the last hours of this Friday.

With the authorization of Flamengo, Marí traveled to London at around 8 pm today (24). In the English capital, he will undergo examinations and sign a contract with Arsenal. The businessman André Cury brokered the deal.

All over Twitter and there are multiple Brazilian sources (including ESPN?) that he's coming for a medical. He used to be at Man City but spent most time on loan so probably Arteta wanted him?

This pubber isn’t good enough, no better than what we have.

I hate this club sometimes.

Yep, very underwhelming, 6'3 though so I'll give him time to prove me wrong.

Why do we always go for the cheap option with CBs?!

Sky saying it will be a loan with an option to buy. Can't do much wrong in this case.

Maybe he will be another Martinelli or another D. Suarez. Time will tell.

Would like us to try and do the same for the central midfield. Specially if Ceballos wants to go.

From what I'm reading he is a good passer of the ball, organises the defense - so I'd say a good leader, and plays a high line so should enable us to play a heavy press a lot like what Arteta wants to do. If it is a loan with an OPTION rather then obligation to buy, then given our shortage of funds, why not!

Looks like he intercepts well, but we’ll see soon enough if he’s going to be a good buy. I’m pleased we are getting in a young by not too young CB, who will hopefully improve us.

It’s a start!

So he looks pretty strong and aggressive in his play.
I think he'll be suited to English football, though he didn't make it at Man City when he was there (they only paid £200k for him)
He will give away a lot of free kicks, though... quite prone to trying making contact with the attacker before the ball has arrived. As he'll be playing for Arsenal that will be a free kick every time.
Like that he is over 6 ft 3 and has some athleticism.

Seems to be a few fans upset because we didn't pay £50m for him. :dontknow:

Gotta love how people come on here already saying he isn’t good enough as if they’ve watched him play before. Give the guy a chance. I trust Arteta from having seen him at City. And for the price, great signing.

Good bit of business if we get this deal through trying to steady that central defence until the summer and if he proves himself then why the hell not
