And none of it would be taking place if Barca hadn't spunked €140m on Coutinho. That transfer changed their fortunes. They had one world class player in Coutinho before
.

Perhaps so, however they did that bit of business very well and as a result put themselves in a great position. Other clubs have had huge sums of money from selling players such as Spuds/Bale.... but that didn’t lead to anything. So credit to LFC for how they spent it.

Even if they did so what? records are there to be broken / equalled.

We need to start living off today not what some amazing AFC team did decades ago who none of them are here now.

............ but wouldn't it be fkin golden if on 2nd of May 2020 Liverpool remained unbeaten until they played us that day.

What a fkin game that would be, it would go down in AFC history as the day Arteta's team defended the Invincibles record! the fans would celebrate like a Cup final.

Hopefully they lose well before that cos if they are still unbeaten til then then our 49 run game is smashed and Liverpool are in to the 50s

They play City as their 48th game. Need city to do something useful for once.

Have people not learned? Liverpool have been way too jammy in a number of games to better Arsenal's 49 unbeaten run.

Also Liverpool are highly reliant on scoring the opening goal. Whilst they are an amazing counter-attacking team, whenever a defensively solid team manages to score first, Liverpool tend to struggle.

Only a matter of time before they lose.

God help us

How depressing is it that that's the only thing we have to play for this season

If Arteta can end their hopes of an unbeaten season, he'll be a legend.

4th is not an achievement so let's forget about that, would rather win the EL and get a trophy and earn a CL spot that way, since when did coming 4th in sport warrant any celebration.

Yup

Rather win a European trophy than finish top 4.

Won't be doing either but we can dream.

Since millions of dollars of TV money became involved. It's a very important place to finish in for obvious reasons. Doesn't mean you celebrate it like a trophy, but lets not pretend it isn't important. Look at how we have fallen without a CL spot.

It remains something to play for
I never claimed it as an achievement
It's a path into the champions league therefore it's something to play for

I'd rather we either finish in a CL place or outside the European places altogether.

The EL is a major distraction for the league schedule - playing Thursdays & Sundays - and the travel is often to places that are miles away.

EL is never the goal but the stepping stone for CL. So like a sick man we need to swallow the bitter syrup to get back to our normal self i.e, a top team challenging for the CL. At this point, a step at a time. PL safety, strong EU & FA run, and see where we end up.
