Fkin love this guy, as a former defender myself, this guy has it, could tell that from game one.

Honestly he could be our best defender since Sol Cambell if he carries on.

Worth 80m+ by the end of the season. Absolute bargain!

I think he'll rotate with Luiz rather than play alongside him.

I think the boss was concerned that if Liverpool spanked us in the league it would wreck his confidence so breaking him in slowly, its 1 thing pulling off a boss performance in the league cup with Liverpool only playing Salah and VVD and the rest reserves and kids, against playing them full strength in the league, it was a decent decision.

I'm sure he'll be ready when we play them at home next time.

With them both accustomed to being the left side of a central defensive pairing I can see the logic of what you're saying big Tone.

The only problem with that though, is the two Brazilians proving to be the two best center backs we have right now, which is further compounded by the soon to be returning Mari also being a southpaw.

With Saliba apparently being deemed embryonic and in need of further development back in France, that only leaves Holding and Chambers for that right hand berth unless we remove Mustafi from that slow running exit conveyor belt.

As I have commented before, I believe that Arteta see's beyond the Germans facade of tomfoolery to view the real defender within and likes him, so if he was to stay for another season whilst Saliba is in an incubator, I don't think he'd be too upset.

Besides, is their any greater fillip and highlighting for a coach or manager than to turn around a team and players careers who have been deemed sub standard and surplus to requirements?

when we return to a 4atb i think david luiz will be comfortable on the right hand side

gabriel has really impressed me though, seems like he never loses and aerial duel and is always looking to pass through the lines

It depends how we set up, when playing Saka left wing back, we need a more solid defensive player on the left side of CB, Luiz can play that 'almost a dm role' in the centre better, Gabriel is more of a destroyer/clearance machine so they can definitely play together.

With Holding and Luiz in the same team, Gabriel needs to be in the middle of them.

It'll be a back three of:

Holding/Mustafi--Luiz/Gabriel--Tierney/Mari
Raya/Ramsdale
White/Tomiyasu--Saliba/Timber--Gabriel/Kiwior--???/Zinchenko
???/Jorginho
Odegaard/Smith Rowe----Rice/???
Saka/Jesus-------------------Martinelli/Trossard

agree but i think Holding and Luiz should not be in the same team, they basically do the same thing and play similar, so switch Mustafi & Luiz in that sentence.

The thought of still having to see Mustafi and Holding and Luiz in the same time sends shivers down my spine.

What happened to Lazio signing Mustafi, was that another nonsense rumour?

I think the Saliba loan to Rennes rumours have probs killed off any move for Mustafi.

We still have Holding and Chambers for the RCB position. I hope he still fucks off.

Really liked what he did at Anfield, already looks very settled. Would like to see him as the main man in a back four before too long.
