The Players : Are they good enough?

Much has been discussed about managers and who would be good enough to take the reins.
From the players the new manager has to work with who's good enough?

Leno - Yes
Martinez - Yes
Macey - Maybe

Bellerin - No
Tierney - Maybe
Sokratis - Maybe
Holding - No
Mustafi - No
Chambers - No
Luiz - No
Mavropanos - No
Kolasinac - No

Ceballos - No
Ozil - Maybe
Torriera - Yes
Maitland Niles - No
Willock - No
Guendouzi - Yes
Smith-Rowe - Maybe
Xhaka - No

Lacazette - Yes
Aubamayang - Yes
Pepe - Maybe
Nelson - No
Martinelli - Yes
Saka - Maybe

I only count 7 definate yes's out of the whole 1st team squad - none in defence.

Too harsh?
It's actually depressing listing out our players and seeing how bad this squad is.
:dontknow:

Good enough for what first of all?

They're good enough to battle for a CL spot. Yes!

I agree with the list apart from writing off Cebellos and giving Torreria a pass.

Torreira for me has moved to a "Maybe" after this years performance although we may have Emery to thank for that.

Cebellos is a good player, his issue, like Guendouzi is his final ball is pants.

............... anyway as per the larger picture, yes, as I've been saying, our players are fkin crap.

The board are obviously horrified but Pepe can't even get on the bench, Freddie is obviously not happy with him and I trust Freddies judgement, he won't suffer wingers who aren't doing the business.

Players, Ozil included, not getting starts because of EFFORT!!!! can you imagine in your wildest dreams a professional football player who is being dropped due to lack of effort in fkin training??

Klopp / Fergie would ear blast you then if you didn't shape up you wouldn't be benched .............. you'd be sold!

Our players are fkin aids, Fancy dan's with Insta accounts and Twitter followers, its the most unprofessional bunch of misfits we've had since Frimpong and smoking, drinking Wilshere........... and even they put in effort at least.

Fkin shambles of a squad but the issue today is the players cost more than the managers, a big transfer gone bust hurts the bottom line more than firing the manager and the players know this.

This is why your Wolves and Leicesters can out perform our lot, they don't cost the earth and so they have no hold on the club or the manager, they don't fight tooth and nail and they'll be fired and sent to the Championship, this is why those players play like a pack of hungry wolves and run riot over our Insta players.

I've based my assessment on being good enough to seriously compete for the title.

Oh ok, so to compete for the title then no, the squad as a whole isn't good enough, but then that doesn't really make it fair judging each individual player. Any of those players could be on a title winning team, but you have to have the supporting players like for any team sport.

But as far as competing for 4th at least, yes, I think we have a good enough squad for that.

I think Bellerin and Holding are definitely 'in'. I could think of Kola being used as a winger/ wing back as opposed to as an out and out full back.
Other than Xhaka, who seems to be good for nothing, every body has some use , but the manager have to be astute and creative.

If everyone is healthy:
Leno
Bellerin - Sokratis - Holding - Tierney
Chambers/Luiz - Torreira
Pepe - Ozil - Auba
Laca

Bench: Martinez, Luiz/Chambers, Kola, Ceballos, Guendouzi, Mustafi/Saka/Willock/Nelson, Martinelli

That's an easy top four with a competent head coach. CBs, maybe RB, DM maybe two, CAM, and winger needed to challenge for PL and CL.
