Too French again?

Postby CynicalGooner » Mon Aug 05, 2019 4:21 pm

Do you guys think we are in danger of becoming too French in the upcoming years? With Guendouzi coming last year and Saliba coming next year, already got Laca and Auba and Pepe were both raised in France.

Our worst period under Wenger by far was when the squad was dominated by young french "talent" we had picked up from Ligue 1. As soon as we brought in some Germans and Spaniards and promoted a few of our English lads, things started getting better.

Since then I've always had an aversion to the club becoming too gallic again. There's the perception that they are cliquey, moody, weak minded and cause drama

The invicibles squad would not have functioned without Cole, Keown, Campbell, Gilberto, Parlour, Ljunberg, Bergkamp, Lehman, Edu, Reyes and all the other non frenchies

Our first double winning squad had:
Vieira, Petit, Anelka and Grimandi as regular starters.

Our second double winning squad had:
Vieria, Pires, Wiltord, Henry and Grimandi as regular starters.

Our Invincibles squad had:
Vieira, Pires and Henry as regular starters.

I suspect the key here is in "young French talent", by that i suspect you mean the likes of Clichy, Alliadiere and whoever else I can't remember, because if you are talking anything else, you need to go see a doctor and check your mental health bruh.

:rofll:

But Cyn I do have to say ......... I wouldn't mind a Vieira and Henry revamp.

Lacazette is French and just as strong willed as Sokratis so I don't buy this angle, we're looking at Tierney, Barca's team has no English players, neither does Madrid, they seem to be doing ok.

.............. and as Sims pointed out, France just won the WC.

France were lucky to get past the group stages in the world cup because of their weak mentality, they were playing well below their talent level until the quarters. They won because Mbappe is a generational talent.

Speaking of French Arsenal captains;

Gallas - Weak minded, tantrum throwing loser
Koscielny - Weak minded, deer in headlights pussy

Its not about nationality, its about leadership.

If you have lazy players with a poor work ethic, ideally, dont buy them. If you do end up with them you need to have a coach who will kick them up the arse. Kicking players up the arse wasn't in Wenger's skill set. That was the problem.

No I'm saying that I think there comes a tipping point where you have too many French players in your squad. Maybe you all have short memories but 10 years ago this was a talking point not just among pundits but fans as well. Arsenal were brittle and there was a clear correlation and everyone could see it.

I'm not saying every French player is weak minded, lazy and stroppy - but guess what for every Vieira or Sagna that we've had, we've had a Clichy, Cygan, Gallas, Giroud, Nasri, Anelka, Diaby.. the list goes on and on and on

I couldn't give a.... what nationality they are if we are winning. The Wilshere, Walcott, Ramsey, Ox lot failed so should we avoid British players?

Stereotyping players cos of where they were born is pretty wild

It’s like saying all Armenians must be shit at football cos Mkhitaryan is from there
