Wow, that's an abrupt one.

He has become a bit of a meme for Arsenal fans. I can imagine that—on the long term and from his POV—it can become rather annoying and flat-out draining.

If this means he'll also relocate to the USA, it's fair to assume he'll no longer be privy to inside information.

Doesn't need to work when he has a Golden parachute from AFC.

Tbf his profile has risen off the back of arsenal fan hero worship and his consistent dedication to reporting on facts, which is why he is held in such high esteem.

Football journalism is also a pretty simple job to do remotely if you have the contacts, as long as you maintain the relationships, most discussions are done on the phone etc. He could also fly in and out if needed.

Either way, hes big enough to attract attention and money from private networks so I doubt this will be the end of his link with us.

A journo is only as good as his sources and his sources are deep within arsenal.

La liga wise but I'm not sure how accurate they are about domestic transfers?

Cant recall them mentioning anything about zaha or Tierney tbh

This.

I think he'll still be based in London since iirc, The Athletic was looking to expand into Europe. Really the only thing that'll change is articles will be behind a paywall ($5.99/monthly subscription or $59.88/yearly subscription). The breaking news will still be tweeted.

I wouldn't be surprised if his Arsenal related sources dry up now. I think it was always more about the club wanting an unofficial mouth piece at the BBC rather than Ornstein himself having super secret ITK techniques.

nothing to do with this.

its not just him, this american paper 'The Atlethic' are hoovering up all the top football journo's in the UK. pretty much the oil newspaper bringing in only the best. they've taken amy lawrence and number of top journo's for all the other clubs as well.

They must be paying some retarded amount of money for that profession for folks to willingly quit and move.
