Arteta needs to tone it down. Comes across like a real prick.

I say go on Arteta. Wind this prick in! He has a contract with us. He might have had a good season but he's 21 and proven nothing.
For the sake of £10m we should try to get him settled with us and show why we bought him.
If he throws his toys out the pram, let him rot in the reserves for a season. It could be the best thing for his career long term! Some of these kids need to realise the world doesn't owe them!

Both of you got trolled, alexafc just added in the bit about bending the knee.

Saliba allegedly wants to stay and play CL with Marseille next season, reportedly said he will run down his contract (last two years) and walk on a free if Arsenal don't allow him another year (or a full transfer) to Marseille. This is only agents talk which could all be BS, but you can kindda see his point.

Remember we have a club policy of not allowing high value players to run contracts down below 2 years.

Saliba situation shows the clubs management in a very poor light. Badly handled from day one.

I don't think it's only agent talk. He will be a starter in the league and CL and likely be in the French NT for Qatar. He has no reason to trust Arteta over Sampaoli, esp not with Guendouzi telling him what his time was like here.

Worst bluff ever. A 21yo elite prospect is going to willingly choose to sit out two full seasons at Arsenal if he doesn't get his transfer to Marseille this summer? :rofll:

Like...no, he's not. Two seasons is a LONG time to go without playing. Willingly skipping over 100 possible appearances at a top PL team because he didn't get the move he wanted would be one of the biggest red flags I've ever seen in a player.

Imagine Arsenal buying a player that threw a hissy fit and sat out two years at his previous club because he didn't get his way. Would you all be clamoring to bring him in? f**k no

Sit out doesn't mean refusing to play; that would be a breach of contract. It means pulling a Eddie where he rejects all extension offers and puts pressure on the club to let him go for a fee, rather than lose him for nothing when his contract is up.

You don't understand what that means - of course Arsenal will play him - he's a quality defender on 2.5m a year - he just won't sign a new contract and his value to Arsenal will plummet. This is elite football not kindergarten.

Host of clubs including Newcastle after him apparently.

Honestly, if i were him the way he's been treated I'd tell Arteta to fk off and make a move away.

Seems he's valued by other clubs.

I don't see an issue with the way he's been treated, not in terms of loans at least. If the manager hasn't kept in touch, that's a different story.

He wouldn't be as good as he is if he wasn't going out on loan, and White and Gabi wouldn't be as good as they are if they had to shift around for two seasons to accommodate Saliba.

As long as communication was clear, it should all be good. I think the kid needs to wind his neck in and get on with it he's an Arsenal player.

This is the trouble with handling the situation as we have, we’ve left ourselves in a weak position, clearly the player doesn’t feel valued and why would he given how he’s been treated, with 2 years left to on his contract it also doesn’t leave us a lot of bargaining room.

He’s in the French squad and wants to play at the World Cup, if he can get regular football at another club it would make perfect sense for him if we’re unwilling to offer him the same.

Also clubs will know we’re in a tough position and we wouldn’t even get top dollar if we sold him.

Be such a shame to miss out on this guy, he’s 21 with years ahead of him and has proved very very good already.

It's Arteta who should have winded his neck in and integrated him into the team much earlier. He should have been registered in Jan 2021 when Sokratis and Mustafi left. Instead he went to Nice, and Arteta let Holding and Mari shore up the defense in Europa, which of course failed.

Most of the squad are still inexperienced kids who don't know what a properly run big club looks like.

Saliba however hasn't played a single minute for Arsenal, but has made CL elsewhere, so he will have a less cloistered view of things. Trying to sell him on the process now will be useless.

He was perfectly good enough when we bought him as a19 year old for £27m!!! the original agreement was to let hi stay in France to help the team in the cup match, perfectly reasonable request. He then came back to us (all under Emery) and was loaned out to Nice. He then came back after a good stint at Nice where there was no reason he shouldn't have stayed with the club. Instead Arteta shipped him out to Marseille and has now admitted that he regrets doing it.

Saliba himself said he was annoyed/disappointed that he has not been given a chance to show what he can do at Arsenal. So it s clear Saliba has not been treated well, if you were sent on continual loans wouldn't you feel pissed off ?! Wouldn't you feel mistreated, if you signed for Arsenal but have been sent here there and everywhere, wouldn't you feel unwanted ?!!!

So, YES he has been mistreated.

And what reason would Arsenal have to play him if he openly states he won't sign a new deal and is constantly angling for a move? IMO a smart club would bring in a replacement and build for the inevitable future without him. Right now, Arsenal has the leverage. It's too bad Arteta and Edu f***ked up the Nice loan last season. We could be in a completely different spot.

You can't be serious? Why does any club play a player running down contracts - Messi, Ronaldo, Pogba - because they're better than the reserve players who would come in and replace them .... you do watch football right?
