I thought the same for a second, then thought. He'll be missing valuable playing time that can give him experience, which I'm sure he needs.

Is that how injuries work? You just get them sorted at your convenience.

If they require an operation, some players wait until the end of the season and aren't always ready for the start of the new season. At least he's not missing games for us.

Apparently we've included Saliba in our 25-man squad U21 players (Contract and Scholars) and no, not because we're planning to recall him from loan.

His inclusion means that in 3 years' time he could meet the homegrown criteria.

premierleague.com wrote:A "Home-Grown Player" means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

We have indeed: https://www.premierleague.com/news/1335777

Saliba will be 21 in March 2022

That's only 30 months away though, not 36

Actually wait, three entire seasons before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)

2019/20
2020/21
2021/22

So he'll by 21 by the end of 2021/22 but at the end of that season he'll have been registered for 3 seasons

...Maybe?

Yes, contrary to what I understood and wrote about Saliba's eligibility a couple of months ago, that's how I'm understanding it as well.

I can't think of any other reason on as to why else we would've included Saliba in our 2019-20 25-man u21 Premier League squad.

He's not in the 25-man squad though, he's part of the youth players like other young loanees like Nketiah.

Ha, thanks for pointing that out.

I don't think him being registered as a u21 player has any influence on the quota that is being contracted at Arsenal for 3 seasons (36 months) prior to his 21 birthday.

It'd help if the FA was more limpid and detailed on their homegrown quota.
