Asked if there was a young player at Arsenal that had particularly impressed him, Odegaard told the Premier League: ‘Yeah. Obviously we have Bukayo [Saka] and Emile [Smith Rowe] and they are already playing so much. ‘But I think one guy who hasn’t played that much lately is Gabi Martinelli.

‘He’s such a big talent, you see him in training every day and you see it. He’s a really talented player with a lot of qualities, so I think definitely he’s one for the future. And he’s so young still, so I will go with him.’

Asked if Martinelli can have an impact in the Arsenal first team, Odegaard continued: ‘Yeah definitely. ‘As I said, he’s really young so he just has to keep working hard – as he’s doing every day in training.

He will reach his goals because, from what I see every day in training, he’s a top, top talent. ‘For him it’s just about continuing doing his work and then everything will come for him.’

Do you think we will lose him because of Artetas treatment?

Not that I blame Martinelli if he wants to go, it’s going to be like when KDB/Salah/Lukaku had to leave Chelsea to become successful, I’m sure Martinelli will make us regret it just like those 3 did Chelsea

Yes, him, Saliba and Balogun. I don't think any of them will realistically play much of a role in an Arteta side.

Refreshing to see some energy instead of Willian in training mode on the left, shame he’ll be on the bench again

Why hasn’t Martinelli been started?
The Arsenal boss explained that one of the reasons for the teenager's lack of minutes is the number of youngsters who are already featuring regular for Arsenal this season.

"We cannot put six or seven young kids out there,” he said. “We need some cohesion, we need the timing.

“Gabi has a lot of things to improve. He has got big qualities as well, and we have other players in those positions.

“Then we have to create links within the team and balance within the team. This will come.

That’s nonsense as usual from Arteta.

We have young players but if you’re good enough you’re old enough, we’ve really got 3 very good young players, ESR, Saka and Martinelli, the rest aren’t that young and have experience playing full seasons at other clubs.

we're gonna lose one of the best young talents we've had in years because of arteta.

we should be building the team around this kid.

Yep. Absolute rubbish. If Martinelli had played on Thursday that's just 3 kids starting. How is that different to Saka, Ode and Smith Rowe starting?

In 2007, Wenger took this squad to Anfield and won 6-3. I think seven or eight of them were teenagers.
Almunia, Hoyte, Toure, Djourou, Traore, Walcott, Fabregas, Song Billong, Denilson, Julio Baptista, Aliadiere.

If I had the choice of keeping Martinelli or Arteta it would be the young fella all day, he could probably get more out of this lot if you put him in charge also, at least the kid has desire

That excuse from Arteta is total BS.

He's ruined Martinelli's Arsenal career. I can only assume it's a personal thing, because there are no football reasons.
