And in no-one better can Arteta's influence be seen than in Raheem Sterling.
Prior to the current campaign, England international Sterling had never scored more than 11 goals in a season, and had never reached double figures in the Premier League.
Too often in the final third he would be indecisive in the final third or would tense up and look to play an extra pass; averaging a goal every five games in club football and one in four during his opening two years with City, there were questions over whether the 23-year-old had enough of a killer instinct in front of goal, and whether he would ever have the confidence to take chances when they came his way.
Those questions have been answered during City's record-breaking campaign, with Sterling scoring 23 times and laying on another 17 for teammates. He has also missed chances, but impressively has neither hid, his confidence apparently now unaffected by missing.
Much of what it has come down to working with Arteta, putting in extra hours on the training ground. Last season Guardiola improved Sterling's ability to receive the ball, open his body and give himself extra options.
This year, it has been about the final moment, the last touch and movements in and around the box, knowing when to get a shot off and when to take a touch.
It is something which Arteta has drilled into the winger both on the training ground and before matches, working also on the mental aspect, about being willing to get in positions time after time after time, never fearing, remaining calm and taking enjoyment in finding the net.
“I think Raheem is enjoying scoring goals,” Guardiola said. “He’s not scared, he’s not afraid to take a risk.
“And now he’s seeing how fun, how good it is to score goals. Now he’s more focused on that.
“Mikel Arteta is working many, many hours and days after training specifically about the last action on the pitch – that control in the last moment to make the right movement in the final three or four metres.“It’s part of the mentality he needs. He [Sterling] knows a striker has to score goals and he has to do that if he wants to achieve the next step. You won’t survive in the high level teams in his position if you don’t score goals.”
