There is no structure to our midfield.

So he is basically put in to just scramble and get the ball.

his co-mids are nowhere to be found.. they are in vague defensive positions yet not near anyone on teh other team...

Judging by the comments I've seen and heard on other media platforms, it seems that 100% of our fanbase view Torriera as our number 1 if not only defensive midfielder, and simply can't make sense of why he is not first choice or even when selected is being played out of this specialist position in preference to a box to box role.

Maybe our manager is paying homage to the tactical brilliance of Sarri who did the same thing with Kante, widely viewed as the best in the business prior to last season, I don't know but would be intrigued to hear the views of any Chelsea fans on the matter if anyone has any as mates and wether they prefer the pre or post Sarri Kante.

How he is not a starter or at least does not get significant amount of time is beyond me.

He is being wasted and if this keeps up, he will be gone eventually.

Was trying to look for the highlight of his intercepting of their striker in our PENALTY BOX to win the ball!

So Cool, Clam & collected, doing his job! a Proper DM ...

Honestly the striker wasn't Son & the team wasn't Spurs at the Emirates in the NLD...

but still .. comparing the two recent INCIDENTS, One in the NLD with Xhaka [ Slips on a banana peel ... with the ARMBAND ON! ]

Compared to

Torreira's calm pickpocketing of this guy at the Forrest....in our PEN BOX...that no one highlights...Because thats how it should be....stopping an

assault before it becomes a Real Problem, with a Level Head & reacting Quickly & instinctively to not only solve the problem b4 it happens but move

on & maintain the FLOW of the game!

Thats what a DM should do....

I Agree with the last commenter 'Mike Dean' ....Emery's wasting him on the bench, playing a Slow Donkey in Xhaka instead, in the Center of our team,

just on Emery's Mental 'Height Requirement', & Torreira will be forced to leave & go to a REAL BIG CLUB that will give him minutes & will Really

challenge to Win Whatever Competitions they are in.

[I still Fear for City coming for him in Jan with a whole wad of cash because they got Rodri but have space for another QUal QUal DM..in Torreira..UCL WON! ]

Its because of this Emery has now used up all his credit with the Arsenal fans.

One run of bad results and they'll be calling for him to go, this decision among others will be why.

I truly don't understand why he's fighting for this so much but its going to cost him, Xhaka isn't going to get better and the fans have made their mind up on it.

............. its already got this far, if Emery doesn't get top 4 not one AFC fan will stand by him end of season.

I agree with everything you've said and as I've stated in an earlier post, so do the vast majority of our (some fans of other teams too for that matter) fanbase in discussions I've seen/heard regards who should play DM.

Guendouzi has also been put forward for the job by a few, which personally I don't doubt he possesses the ability to do so, but think his more natural game is suited to play off the DM and break forward as opposed to being the anchor role, and I think some of those views are simply fuelled by just preferring him to Xhaka full stop if the plan is not to play with a bonafide DM.

The worrying thing is..the only person who is saying anything contrary to these views is the head coach himself and ultimately it's only his view point that really matters. I don't know, maybe we are all suffering from some kind of mass myopathy (or is it myopia?) and Emery truly is the one eyed man in the land of the blind where Xhaka and the DM position is concerned.

Emery on Torreira: "he can achieve with his quality to get to the box and get closer to score. He is very intelligent about getting space around the box and taking chances."

Its like when Wenger played Bendtner on the wing 'for his development'.
Raya/Ramsdale
White/Tomiyasu--Saliba/Timber--Gabriel/Kiwior--???/Zinchenko
???/Jorginho
Odegaard/Smith Rowe----Rice/???
Saka/Jesus-------------------Martinelli/Trossard
???/Havertz

Yep. Watching Bendy crossing the all into the box when we actually needed someone there to get on the end of them. This is right up there.
