A total of 150m to fix what was the EPL's sixth placed squad? in what reality will that ever work?
Liverpool spent 62m on Alisson, 60m on Keita, 45m on Fabinho, 78m on VDV, 42m on Salah, 38m on Ox, 41m on Mane .... that's 365m to put things right.
If we want Emery to achieve the same then we need to be spending that sort of money this summer ... we all know that's not going to happen so we need patience, expecting miracles just leads to disappointment.
I don't want us to be like Liverpool next season. I want top 4 minimum next season. If he can't get top 4 with two full summer transfer windows he's not good enough.
No, this is far too simplistic an outlook on things.
If reports are true that he will be given a meagre transfer budget of circa £40m, knowing full well this squad is in urgent need of major surgery, and knowing City, Chelsea, Liverpool and United will be looking to spend big, then it's not entirely in his hands.
If he is given a shoddy transfer budget to work with, then surely the main portion of blame is not with him, but is higher up.
Give any other manager a budget like that with an ageing, mediocre squad and set them a target of getting into the top 4 when you know at least 4 clubs you're competing with will be spending more than you. I can 100% guarantee they will all struggle.
What we do this Summer will be telling. I am hoping this £40m transfer budget being reported is BS. Otherwise we are screwed.
