Ozil is an out an out attacking midfielder or withdrawal forward. Don't think he can play central medio where you need to have good snatching/tackling skills also. Sanchez, in some ways was a good snatcher upfield.
Xakha is such a poor replacement for Carzorla/Rosicky. A jack of no trades. Only thing going for him is his long range shooting. Decent.

After seeing the huge difference a players like Cazorla and Rosicky can make it that role, I have no idea what we were thinking when signing Xhaka. A left field decision that made no sense.

So Emery should adapt to our average, underachieving and underperforming set of stagnant players instead of them adapting to the new regime?
This lot are finished and have only gotten us from out of the Top 4 to 5th and 6th place for 2 consecutive seasons. Why would any manager be advised to do something like that?
The majority of these pampered overpaid players have been here for 5 or more seasons where Wenger cuddled them, gave them massive contracts and made excuse after excuse for them. He basically adapted to these players flaws, and what did that get us exactly in the EPL or CL?

Emery is also playing for his own Arsenal future as in this modern age of football managers don’t get the luxury wenger was afford (more than 10 years of underachieving). And the first season is the time any New manager starts implementing his philosophy. Isn’t the first season when a manager starts learning and studying his squad so that he can identify the players that have bought into his style and who to flush out? A time when he is supposed to be tasting the waters for the coming season as next season will be a real hot bath for him.
We have people that have already drawn lines about Emery even after just only 6 or so months in the job with mostly old stagnant wenger players that finished 5th and 6th consecutively.

So he adapt to this embarassing set of players and then next season should be his real honeymoon period? So this season should just be a write off as you prefer he uses it to adapt to the current squads flaws?

Whats not to get, makes perfect sense and should be what Emery is doing. Play to the strengths of the players he has until he can mould the team to his liking by bringing in players suited to it. Its not rocket science.

The point is that Pep and Klopp did not play to the style of the player. City could possibly have won the title in his first season with direct football. They had the pace. That's just not Pep's way though.

Klopp could also conceivably have attempted to play more direct football with Benteke up top in his first year but chose not to

I don’t get it.

I live in the real world. The one where Emery has only been given a two year deal and doesn’t have a free hand with signings. If he wastes this entire season sulking with the players he has, he will be wasting half his contract life. I guarantee you he gets the boot after two season of misssing out on CL. He doesn’t have the time to shape the squad his way. He needs to get moving with what he has, secure a longer term contract and then start bringing in his approach and players.

It was very good to hear Emery highlight the need for a CB and winger during the press conference today - excellent news if we can bring in quality in both positions and encouraging that we have, at last, a manager that can see where the weaknesses lie.

Agree 100% w/swipe right. We have talented individuals who need to be used properly, w/o antagonizing them. They have strong points and weaknesses ; its the managers duty to inspire and mold them into the team.

I was happy at first. Then read his comments re. Suarez and the likelihood he will play him as a winger. I swear we already have so many of these half AM / Winger players. Would much prefer us sign a proper winger tbh
