What would 4-1-4-1 look like with our squad?

Ozil—Xhaka—Ramsey—Mkhitaryan

Monreal—Kos—Mustafi—-Bellerin
—————Cech

I’ve been trying to figure that out. Not sure where Ozil fits in, he’s not really a winger or a CM.

Or he could go with a wide attacker.

In any high press scenario Ozil and xhaka suffer. Wenger used them in the reverse way. To wait for the ball and create a chance.

I think xhaka can learn and adapt, not sure about ozil though. I just can’t see him fitting in that formation. Ozil needs the team built around him and i can’t see emery doing that.

If Ozil could play in a Mourinho set up, he can certainly play in an Emery set up.

We are jumping the gun. Actually everything depends not just on a formation but also on the roles assigned within that particular formation. Two different managers can execute the same formation in two totally different ways.

Ozil may have a free role on the left with freedom to join Auba up front when needed. Ramsey and Xhaka/new midfielder may be the midfield pairing with Ramsey having the license to attack. Mkhi can actually play in the middle or on the right. We have two strikers so that is sorted. We need a new wide man for depth, a new DM/CM , a central defender and a new GK but we cannot get all these without offloading certain personnel. The new midfielder we get should be able to fill in at both DM/ CM.

In a 4-1-4-1 the ‘1’ in front of the back four is what we’re lacking. We don’t have anyone who is disciplined enough to play that role well.

Tell you what, some players are gonna be in a for a total shock with the effort he's gonna demand, you can already tell.

Time to man up at last for the likes of Bellerin, Ozil and all the CM's.

Discipline is by far the easiest thing to coach though.

I think initially he’ll have to play to a system that gets the best out of the squad he’s inherited which will mean a free roaming playmaker in Ozil.

Not sure tbh, I think to be a real top DM you have to really WANT to defend. Otherwise any player shoe horned there is just gonna lose interest and end up going walkies.

Well they either deliver or leave, Mkitarayan puts effort in, Ozil is a CAM so I wouldn't expect too much but he should harry the opposition from the front at least.
