I think the board will have given him the task to try to get us back into the top four this season.

I can see us spending a few quid in January. At least a striker to replace Welbeck in the squad. Maybe another Hispanic central midfield player too. And a left back.

Pudpop wrote:'Won 1 out of 4' is a bit disingenuous though. Palace we conceded 2 penalties. Not saying we deserved to win but individual mistakes happen from time to time, so that result wasn't a reflection of the team's performance. The Liverpool game was arguable our best 90 minutes this season. Last night we played our second team and had 2 injuries prevent Emery from really impacting the game with subs.

That being said, a win on Sunday is a must.

Yeah 2 penalties and a Xhaka give away is harsh in us, we may not of deserved the win overall but we'd likely have won both games if we weren't handing out goals for Xmas.

Regardless we need to get back to winning ways pronto.

If the board have tasked Emery with getting top 4 but have not backed him financially, that makes no sense. £50m is hardly a warchest capable of usurping our competitors. So with that in mind I would expect Emery's brief to be to improve us as a team, make us more difficult to beat, show a noticeable improvement, top 4 is a bonus.

Maybe they wanted to see how he started.

I think with the positive start we've had they may back him in January.

Its the slow starts that are killing us, forever having to come back from behind, I just don't understand why our starts are so kack.

D's instead of L's is prefereablke, not as preferable as W's.

... but it's getting disconcerting that the performances are so uneven... for such a length of time...

Problem is midfield stars like Ozil, Xhaka, , Ramsey cannot put a string of consistent performance together. Been that way for a while now. Even under Wenger, they ( including Nasri and Fabregas) acted the same way. Only Cazorla had rare poor games. That's why we have been out of the title race by January for last 7-8 year, or more. Somehow, we don't have robust medios since the Invincibles left. Bunch of vulnerable flare players.
Also, whole bunch of them ( Rosicky, DIABY) spent large part of their careers on treatment table.

Such a killer when you think we weren't even trying to win the league, we squandered 5 title chances post Emirates

Accto the Orn, we don't have much cash for Jan purchases due to no UCL footy.

We're alongside Spurs at the moment where we can't match the spending of the other top-6 teams. But Sanllehi and Mislintat will take any big money potential signing (Dembele, for example) to the Kroenkes in hopes that Kroenke will inject some cash for such big signings in case the need be. The possibility is slim though.

Tbf we should have kicked on after welbecks goal and won it, unfortunately we had Giroud, I count 09/10 and 10/11 to, bar 07/08 we fell short in all of them seasons by quite a bit l.

Tbf maybe he should have gone in 07/08 that choke was unbelievable.

The point is if we had of signed one of two quality players every summer before them seasons the title could have been there for the taking.

Absolutely, just one or two players to supplement the squad instead of going in the other direction amd reducing squad quality!

Its galling to know we were so close.

Well lets just hope the club back the manager because we're really close to a proper run at top 4, be stupid of the progress Emery has made by making it so our squad struggles to play 2-3 competitions.

I said this a while ago but our 2nd string needs to step up, just because they're not 1st choice doesn't give them the right to not put in a top effort and win games.

We can't play Lacazette etc in every game.

"Over time, only technical quality and offensive freedom were taken care of [under Wenger], losing the defensive structure. What I want is to unite both essences and be more competitive. The Arsenal was in decline. We had to stop it and start climbing."
