Top 4 or staying out of top 4 but showing considerable improvement - better defense, beating other teams in the top 6, winning EL/FA cup, and simply seeing the manager make sensible decisions (reasonable subs, playing the best 11 in big games, benching players that aren't performing).

I'm so split on this right now. On the one hand I feel our attack is top 3. Defense is bottom 6. Home strength is top 2, away strength bottom 6.

I have hope for improvement with a new coach, even if it's just from a fresh approach to training and tactics as well as the bump provided when players actually have to prove their places. These things alone will not carry us thought hey are all short term boosts.

Then the news coming today that we are in fact not going to spend much int he transfer market (50M + sales) has really cut to the core here. We are no different without Wenger in the transfer market. I never put this at his feet, but I was secretly hoping that he was the source of the cheapness once he was leaving and we would open up the floodgates. That's not going to happen clearly.

So I have two sets of expectations now:
-Those I put on the club: Put the players and the manager in a position to compete and represent our full strength in all major competitions. Learn from Man U post-Fergie and avoid loss of players due to the loss of Wenger.

-Those I put on the manager: Bring something fresh, establish some improved defensive stability, get our players to give 100% and achieve what they're capable of.

We have to be realistic here. All the years that Wenger won top 4 his competition for the spot was a comparatively shit Tottenham, a failing Liverpool/Chelsea in upheaval and a always mediocre Everton. The league is hitting one of it's strongest points in a long time right now for depth at the top. Taking down any of the top 4 this season and Chelsea is a huge task.

We look at Liverpool with envy and consider Klopp a tactician worthy of praise. and the reality is...they BARELY made top 4 this season. They ended with less points this season than in 16/17. The bar is higher than it ever has been to make top 4. Let's give the new boss time.

My expectations for next season

* At least 70 points
* Top four finish
* Defence that concedes less than 35 goals in the league
* At least 10 away wins in the league
* Semi-Finals of the Europa League
* Semi-Finals in one of the cups

Top 4 challenge and at least show some progress. We have good enough players, they just need to man up for once in their lives.

If we get the players we are being linked with, Lichsteiner, Papa and Fellaini then I can see a top 4 challenge for sure

Experience is needed as our kids are shit

Being realistic, we are not going to get anywhere near City, Utd or Liverpool who will all improve already winning teams, CHelsea are on a downward, I think we can overtake them, which means we need a side strong enough to overtake Tottenham, which will not be easy.

We should aim for battle for 4th, League Cup and UEFA Cup, theres no way we will challenge for major honors unless Emery creates a miracle out of the spineless players we have.

I have always gone into every season wanting to win the league.

This season I'd like to see us at least challenge for that. If we put on a good show and finish 2nd or 3rd I'll be happy with that.

Well here's a fun fact: Arsenal are the only club in English football to have a won a trophy every season since 13/14. :hiding:

Wouldn't want the record to end, would we? :P

A trophy. Hopefully the Europa League. I don't expect us to challenge for the title. I do expect us to reach the latter stages of the EL. I think we can win it this time.
