Wenger had declined from his heady days of the 2000's, but even his worst was far cry from Mourinho's or plenty others in big clubs. He had to operate under shoe string budgets, year in and year out, compared to Mou or Pep or Klopp or most others in big clubs across Europe. Also, massive money and commercial pressure have complicated the player-manager relationship, which he had to tackle very late in his tenure.
Earlier, Sir Alex used to wield the cane like a school master, but now its all player power.
Prima Donna's like Pogba, Ozil, Sanchez and others take in fat contracts and then play hooky, bringing the organization down.
In these circumstances, it seems Wenger did ok, working within limitations.

There's a relatively easy way to deal with prima donas

Don't sign them in the first place

Football is a cliquey business. If a player has that rep, the manager will know. Don't sign them.

Fergie dealt with every ego perfectly. Told them to get in line or shippied them out. Its nonsense to say its all player power now.

The egos are certainly bigger than ever

But for every trouble maker you can name, there's another who's professional and gets on with the job..... So don't sign trouble makers

Oh come on. Its well documented what Fergie did to Keane, Beckham and Ronaldo, the last two of which transcended the sport. Pogba is small fry in comparison.

He dealt with Stam, Evra, Veron, Ince, Tevez and loads more.

How long ago was that though? Times have changed a bit. Not saying that the players are to blame for everything, but they are different now days. Not just in football but in many sports. It's talked about a lot with coaches and how the players have to be dealt with differently. Yes, not every single player, but certain approaches don't always work like they did in the past. This is coming from coaches themselves, not just my opinion. I wouldn't doubt if Fergie agreed with that as well, could have been one of the reason why he decided to retire as well.

Wenger has done extremely well. You’ve got to be retarded to deny that.

- 17 trophies
- 3 league titles
- 7 FA cups ( record)
- An entire season without defeat
- Champions league finals
- 20 years in the Top 4

We will never witness that type of success at Arsenal ever again !!

Just realised that if we hadn't got rid of him, we wouldn't have bought Sokratis and Kos's return from injury would be like a new signing. Except it'd be a tragic new signing and we'd be heading for relegation

No we will witness better

Btw points 2 and 3 are duplicates of 1 and 4, it was one CL final, which we lost, and point 6 isn't even a thing

There are no guarantees of success, that’s for sure. Look at some of the clubs who were massive in their day, but aren’t even in the PL now! Clearly money is what will buy you the manager and players to at least give you a chance and there seem to be more and more clubs now with similar spending power to us and a few that are light years ahead. Doesn’t really bode well for witnessing better!

Arsenal has been one of the biggest clubs in the country for around eighty years.

One of the biggest, but at no point the biggest. At every point in our history we've had to overcome richer, stronger opposition to win the trophies we've won

We will do it again

We beat Liverpool in the 80s and early 90s, then we beat Utd in the mid 90s to early 00s.

We failed to compete with Chelsea in the 00s and 10s. This could be the first decade since the 60s we haven't won the league!
