Diaby, Wheelchair, Rosicky, and Cazorla it was too much. Chance after chance after lie after lie about their fitness, for financial reasons to duck having to buy a replacement

Hear hear
As fans we can be sentimental and love all our players
I expect the manager to make hard nosed decisions for the better of afc as they are fully furnished with the facts
To behave any other way is negligent
I love David rocastle to bits and it's an absolute tragedy what happened to him
But graham made the tough decision to let him go as he was not performing as well as he had been
Chocker? Yes
But without doubt the right decision
It does not stop a reciprocal love
This needs to be thought of next time there is the absolute pantomime booing of ex players
It's a tough old game
Careers can be short and its up to every player to look after themselves
It's arsenal's job to make the best decision for a player to make is to be an arsenal player

He should have instead kept his starting spot?

It was a complete disgrace what Newcastle did. Or more accurately what Ashley and Pardew did. Even their own fans haven't forgiven them for that. Even a tribunal found NUFC at fault. I fail to see how you think what they did was right?

This is majorly different from what Wenger faced with Diaby and Wheelchair
Well I'm not aware of any of that. I was under the impression he just had time off while getting treated and then came back but wasn't the same.

I'll go read about it later then.

Avoided picking him to avoid the extension

Irony is he scored the goal that saved them

Its that lack of shrewdness that made Wenger a specialist in failure. Turned him into a nice bloke but shit manager.

16 trophies in 22 years including the only unbeaten season in a century and a record number of FA cups does not suggest lack of shrewdness or failure.

Didn't he win all but 3 of those in his first 10 years though? Which is amazing of course, but then the next 12 he showed how the game had passed him by.

Exactly, like I said ... "that made him a specialist in failure".

But Arsene Knows wears Wenger coloured glasses.

Wenger was a very nice bloke .... which made him unable to compete when football changed.

Seeing as this is the appreciation thread I will say that I do absolutely appreciate what Arsene Wenger did for Arsenal football club. He made us a bigger name globally when he left than we were before he joined. You felt that on big European nights we were as big as the real big boys of European football.

Even if you look at the last ten years that’s 8 years of top four finishes and 3 FA cups. Can’t think of anyone other than Ferguson and Mourinho who bettered that in England. Let’s see what happens next.

I really wished we'd have won the EL last season. It would have been a fitting goodbye and Wenger would have finally won something in Europe.

Still think we would have won it if Giroud stayed and/or Elneny were fit.

Managers who've won the Prem:

- SAF
- Dalglish
- Wenger
- Mourinho
- Ancelotti
- Mancini
- Pellegrini
- Ranieri
- Conte
- Guardiola

Managers who've won it within their resources:

- Wenger
- Ranieri

Managers who've gone unbeaten:

- Wenger.

There are some things money can't buy.

How did Ferguson not win titles within his resources?

All the money he spent was self generated by his success.

a. ManU had a financial advantage thanks to Sky in the first years of the Prem era.
b. When Wenger arrived, we were the underdog and ManU were the dog.
c. We're "poorer" than ManU - who are more comparable to Real and Barca.
d. Doesn't fit my narrative. :P

Ferguson was a great manager. Better than Wenger. But he had a leg up all those years. He was able to buy guys like Rio and Rooney for 30 mil a piece when our record signing was Arshavin at 15. Doesn’t negate his achievements but he did have a financial advantage.
