Reyes LWF and Van Persie RWF with Henry in the middle would’ve been awesome imo.

Yeah and what happened? :rofll:

Btw we also bought RVP, you know, our future world class player along with Cesc.

Vieira turned into a bellend and still is.

I know what happened but the point is you wouldn't have expected it to happen and at that point its understandable why vieria might have been annoyed that summer.

The reality is we weren't being ambitious in the transfer market , we were buying young players for no money, we were already preparing for the Emirates move

The lack of ambition caused us to nose dive, within under 2 years of the invincibles we were relying on lasagna to top Jermaine jenas and Michael dawson, so in a sense Paddy wasn't wrong, he knew we couldn't keep getting away with being unambitious

Well actually we were going toe to toe with Barcelona in the CL final the same year but let's ignore that shall we? Despite having Senderos as a key CB in that season.

We didn't need major additions, we had near enough the best squad in the world even if they didn't perform as well as they should've in the CL. Vieiria didn't need to be the whiney little bitch he was every summer, particularly not as early as 2001 when he thought we were gonna finish 5th but we won the double.

Had Ade, rvp, Reyes, Eduardo, risicky, cesc, diaby, hleb worked out, we would’ve had a brilliant squad. Could’ve won the league with that lot. But injuries and frequent departures screwed it up,for us. Wenger was never the same again after that squad dissolved.

But the twist is that unlike other star players, Henry owed everything to Wenger so had a loyalty towards him other stars wouldn't have.

He was also kept in check by playing alongside the likes of Bergkamp and Vieira.

Henry became egotistical towards the end but he was not always like that.

You need to stop this Vieira was a mercenary narrative.

He wanted to win the CL, it wasn't about the money.

If he was a mercenary he would've joined United when he threatened to in '02; Madrid were also interested in him when he left, he would've made more money there than at Juventus.

Exactly this !! Tired of fans trotting out this tired old nonsense. Vieira wanted to win the CL thats why he left. Being one of the 2 best CMs in English football he was always going to get a good salary wherever he went. Its nonsense to claim Vieira was a mercenary.

There is a lot of woulda, coulda, shoulda here, fact of the matter is, we didn't ! Meanwhile Vieira went to Juventus and then Inter - who went on to dominate Serie A until he left them ... coincidence ?

Yeah, coincidence that all Inter's competition got relegated or docked points.

And what if you told us your biggest mistake?

Perhaps staying at the same club for 22 years. I'm someone who likes to move around a lot, but I also like a challenge. I've been a prisoner of my own challenge at times.

Meh, he's just realised what we all thought and can see our side now.

He was too much of a stubborn old man to see things outside the box. Now that he has taken a step back out of the limelight, he's starting to see what we all saw for the last few years.
I bet this also makes him hesitant to take another managerial role.
