Apparently, Arteta was the preferred choice, but once Wenger came out in support, Gazidis reconsidered his position

Call them out tbh. You have my blessing.

Meanwhile, some of us knew wayyy back in January 2015:

If Wenger leaves now, it would be be a catastrophe because there is no one to replace him. Players like Ozil and Sanchez would most likely leave, because it was Arsene who enticed them to come. Even more so, very few players of quality would want to come to us anymore. Do you honestly think we would have been able to lure someone like Sanchez if Wenger left after he won the FA cup?

Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simeone, Ronald Koeman, Rudi Garcia, Unai Emery, Frank de Boer. There are plenty of managers out there who could come in and replace Wenger. Ozil and Sanchez are going to leave anyway if Arsenal can't compete for the major silverware (PL and CL); doesn't matter who the manager is. Players of their quality need to aspire for championships, not immaterial fourth place trophies.

We would easily be able to attract star talent. Ffs, who do you think we are: Tottenham or some shit? It's not just the manager that attracts players. It's the stature of the club. I can more than guarantee you that the managers I listed would be able to attract some of the world's top players. We're one of the biggest clubs in the world!

Although, I hang my head in shame at the Koeman and De Boer mentions.

March 2015:
LMAO wrote:Unai Emery has Sevilla in the Europa League final for the second year running. Would love him here since he's already more than proven he can win on a European stage.

And May 2015:

Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid
Jurgen Klopp, Borussia Dortmund
Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid
Jose Mourinho, Chelsea
Pep Guardiola, Bayern Munich
Luis Enrique, Barcelona
Masssimiliano Allegri, Juventus
Unai Emery, Sevilla
Ronald Koeman, Southampton
Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar Donetsk
Rudi Garcia, Roma
Frank de Boer, Ajax
Nuno Espirito Santo, Valencia

Again, disregard Koeman and De Boer. Definitely one of my few gaffes on here.

ffs, Gazidis should've listened to me back then, and we'd currently be reloading instead of rebuilding. #GiveMeASeatOnTheBoard

I'm not, his greatest achievement is winning the Europa League.

Which Wenger almost did too.

Emery never faced a top team in any of his EL wins. The best he faced was an 8th placed Liverpool at the start of Klopp's reign

Almost?
Sounds a bit spursie having a semi final defeat on your honours board
Thank god this is arsenal
13/14 Europa league
Sevilla beat Porto quarter final unfair ranked 10th 3rd in Portuguese league
Valencia in semi final uefa ranked 8 th 8 th in Spanish league
Benfica in final uefa ranked 5 th Portuguese champions
14/15 Europa league
Sevilla beat villareal last 16 uefa ranked 29 th 6 th in Spanish league
Zenit in quarter final uefa ranked 15th Russian champions
15/16 Europa league
Sevilla beat basil last 16 uefa ranked 19 Swiss champions
Bilbao quarter final 22nd uefa ranking 5 th Spanish league
Shaktar semi final 21st uefa ranked 2nd Ukraine league
Since when as 8th been higher than 5th or 6th?
Since. When has losing a semi final been almost as good as winning a trophy 3 times?

HE LOST A ONE TEAM LIGUE 1 WITH PSG ffs.

TBF monaco got 95 points and won 30 games, its not like they didn't set a good mark.

The fact he went a whole season without winning an away game and being a part of the biggest choke job in european history is far more concerning.

yeah but our fans are stupid so do u think they care about that if theyre happy in a dreamland where emery is considered a good manager

Monaco also got to 95 points, in part due to PSG not beaten them ffs.

Such a shitty appointment.

Anyone remember the 6-1?

I remember Man Utd 6 arsenal 1
And going back to clinch the title at the same ground 15 months later
That was in the days when bad results were a blip for Wenger not the norm

2015? Gladbach, Villarreal, Zenit, Fiorentina (arguably the hardest) and Dnipro.

2016? Molde, Basel, Bilbao, Shakhtar and Liverpool (the hardest team in three seasons)

Lol @ 3 EL's

Can only play who's in front of you :dontknow:

If we were in the EL with that fixture list, we'd have a treble of Europa Leagues. Would you seriously rate Wenger based on that?

We faced tougher teams to get to the semi than that list.

Yes
Just like that tie v Monaco
Got back in the game then gave up a goal to a long punt
Good job Wenger learned from that
No way the same thing would happen 3 years later v athletico Madrid ?
Monaco ranked 68th in uefa rankings finished 3rd in the French league
Same round of matches Sevilla were defending a 1-0 home win travelling to munchengladbach
Despite granit xhaka scoring and getting sent off Sevilla won the away leg 3-2 against the 49th ranked team
But of coarse the Europa league would have been a cake walk for the much decorated in Europe Wenger?

Weirdly enough the answer to the thread title seems to be 'no-one' since we have a head coach and not manager

Well that's how much of a curve ball they pulled off because Emery wasn't even on the list.

The media were literally declaring Arteta the other day but literally a 24hr u turn before the announcement Emery was declared.

They definitely kept that one close to their chest.

Bye Arteta.

Seriously...The Express has become the worst paper ever! They just make up headlines and this looks like another one! I’ll eat a whole copy if I’m wrong! ;-)

Did this ever happen btw?

Bored and going through the Emery mentioned posts on this thread.
