How do we solve central midfield?

I'm convinced our problems lie in central midfield. We have not found the right combo that can switch us quickly from defense to attack. It's the only explanation for us having all this possession and yet struggling to score away from home. All we do is pass the ball sideways around the half way line with no penetration and the minute we lose the ball we are susepctible to the counter attack.

While Xhaka is a creative player with a good passing range he is rather one dimensional. Whoever he is partnered with seems lacking. Wilshere, Ramsey, Elneny, Wilock have all struggled with him. Either we sell Xhaka or find the right CM to partner with him. Till then it doesn't matter how many strikers we buy.

Firstly, we must get rid of Xhaka as soon as possible. If Ramsey won't commit his future to Arsenal, sell him as well. Then we should sign a defensive midfielder and a deep-lying play maker.

We should have done all this a long time ago.

Hard to see where a world-class DM would come from. PL midfielders with highest tackling rates are Ndidi, Gueye, Kante.

But even bloody Mo Diame was out-tackling Xhaka/Elneny yesterday.

Still wouldn't sell Xhaka though. I've always thought he could operate better from defence - or at least much, much deeper than he now plays.

The problem isn't with one specific position. It's with the whole tactical approach.

The tactics that the team are being given are not working.

We rarely look like scoring, we don't create enough proper chances, and can't defend for toffee.

Either we have bad players or we have a bad manager. Either way, Wenger should be sacked and replaced with someone who can introduce something new.

We have two fundamental problems according to me.
1. We can't play the ball in behind defenses.
2. We have to commit too many men forward to pass our way into the opposition box which leaves us vulnerable on the counter.

I like Xhaka in that he can pick runs from the forward line and play balls forward. The problem is as a playmaker he looks to position himself to receive the ball rather than break up opposition attacks. That means he shouldn't be the one shielding the defense. Elneny is better suited to that role but I don't rate him as a top player. I can't see him ever holding down a starting spot. We need a more mobile midfielder who has good tackling ability and can make successful short passes.

The other problem is our lack of width. Wenger has the entire forward line cutting in on their good foot instead of any one trying to round the full back. It makes us easy to defend against as our one touch passing isn't what it once was and we get crowded out in the box.

The problem is cazorla, ramsey, wilshere and xhaka all want to play the same position. Elneny is the only DM we have and he is well below Arsenal quality.
