How do we solve it, buy some decent midfielders instead of spending 50 million on a CB we don’t need!

If we don't bring anyone in I would like to see:
Torreira
Partey - ESR

Thats our best CM partnership, Torreira is a de-facto DM, leave him to play the role he is good at, it will free up Partey to play his natural box to box game too,

If we lose Torreira I would prefer us to bring in a beast to screen the back 4 or another box to box CM so when Partey goes forward - he sits .... and vice versa.

Alternatively, we play a 3-5-2 which has already been mentioned before. Deals with Torreira’s height issue.

Gabriel and Holding alongside Saliba, Mari, or Tierney at the back.

Partey alongside the better of Elneny, Torreira, Azeez, or Guendouzi in the center.

ESR in the hole.
Ramsdale
(Turner/Hein)
White Saliba Gabriel Zinchenko
(Tomiyasu/Niles) (Timber/Holding) (Trusty/Kiwior) (Tierney/Tavares)
Odegaard(c) —- Rice
(Xhaka/Lokonga) —- (Partey/Elneny)
Havertz
(Jorginho/Vieira)
Saka Jesus Martinelli
(Pepe/Nelson) (Nketiah/Balogun) (Trossard/ESR)

Xhaka's gone, so that's half the equation.

Partey needs to start asserting himself this season; he was dreadful last year, but I will grant that he was very new and Arteta's tactics must have seemed bizarre.

He was also in and out with injuries, first season in a new league usually gets a pass imo but this season I expect a lot more if he stays fit. He's shown glimpses of what he's about but we need more toughness as well.

Torreira will be gone for sure so we need a bonafide starter next to Partey and either keep Guendouzi to play backup with Elneny or sign another midfielder (e.g. Bissouma AND Aouar) and have a stacked midfield at last.
