97-98, highest scorer was Bergkamp w/ 16, an Attacking mid like Odegaard. Wrighty scored 10 and Anelka, if I remember correctly, got 6 or 8.
Henry was hardly the kind of striker we see in Haaland.
Was an all out footballer adept at both creating and scoring, and setting up attacks. A generational talent, that we were lucky to have.
In fact the other day Adams and Wrighty were having a discussion about strikers. Adams told that during their time most goals used to go through Wrighty and they got by scoring much less than nowadays. Both agreed that current practice of spreading the goals is far effective and efficient than just having a target striker.

Whaaaaaaaaat??

Bergkamp was a genuine second striker, played in a 4-4-2, he was absolutely not an attacking midfielder, where on earth did you get that from?!!

Those days the 2nd striker is the modern day attacking mid in a 4-3-3. Just a fancy name change ( or marginal difference, if any).
Acting smart aren't you?
Odegaard got 15-16 goals in 22-23. Messi also basically played the same role all his life, attacking mid or a 2nd striker ( almost).

I'm not being smart, I am being factual

Maradona was a no10 but he was actually an attacking midfielder, he was often in his own half, like Odegaard is. But Bergkamp was a second striker, no ifs ands or maybes ! He never picked up the ball in his own half, Maradona did loads of times. You only need to watch highlights of both to see that they were entirely different no10s, Bergkamp mostly operated in the final third, Maradona mostly operated in the middle third.

If you can't see the difference between an attacking midfielder and a second/support striker I don't know what to tell you fam.

Thing with Bergkamp was he was intelligent. Henry used to drift out wide (a bit like Havertz dropping deep) but Bergkamp would then push up and give us someone in the box.

If you put Henry in Havertz' place as the lone striker in our current formation I think we'd have the same issues of lacking bodies in the box.

Havertz might be better as the second striker in a front two, but I don't know how you then accomodate Odegaard. If it's a choice between Havertz and Odegaard as the 10 then Havertz isn't going to get a look in. You could rotate them and switch between 4-3-3 and 4-4-2.

The second half of last season I think we got it just right, how to get the best out of Havertz, I was purring over his performances and happy to stand up for him against ANYONE. He often wasn't the furthest player forward, he made great runs

The system has changed this season though, there is far less counter attacking which suits Havertz and much more possession which doesn't. In facts I would say the possession game doesn't suit Trossard or Martinelli either. Its blunted us.

Bergkamp was what we call a CF now, he just used skill and intelligence to hold the ball up not size like they do these days.

Henry was the striker.

I used to hate on adebayor but he's leagues ahead of havertz

Feel for him. 21/24 games started, he's already played more minutes than all of last season. It was inevitable.
