Arsenal in meltdown?

Postby tufnelltoughie » Fri Jan 12, 2018 12:03 pm

Is there any hope for Wonky and Arsenal now?

The Ox already gone.

Coquelin sold.

Alexis on the verge of leaving for Manchester.

Theo lining up to go to Everton.

Ozil out of contract soon.

Cech and Mertesacker past it.

There really is little hope now.

I'm hoping this a requisite for Arsenal preparing and clearing out ready for the new manager.

I think Wenger's gone end of season, he won't last 5 mins once Gazidis and co start transferring his powers over to other figures in the club, Wenger won't hack it and he know's it, he's already making snide remarks about the new scout etc.

The summer and a new manager is a long way away.

This is how we could be starting in February.

Cech
Bellerin-Koscielny-Monreal
Mustafa-Xhaka-Wilshere-AMN
Ramsey-Lacazette-Iwobi

It doesn't inspire me with much confidence for either the PL or EL.

No chance of the Champions League next season and possibly not even the Europa League with that lot.

The short answer is yes. Fundamentally the meltdown is caused by the split between the ambitions of the club and the ambitions of the fans. Both parties have been able to brush the split under the rug for a long time. However, recent events have changed the game decisively.

In the past, the club has been able to bring the fans on board by cleverly feeding them narratives. 'The Emirates Debt' and the subsequent 'New Arsenal' narratives have set the fans' sights towards a bright future instead of the rather mediocre present. This is how they've kept the fans on board for almost ten years.

However, this approach has run its course. The fans see through the facade, and they're having none of it - as evidenced by the most recent 'Catalyst for Change' narrative which has been dead in the water. Neither the fans nor the club will budge and - voilà! We have a meltdown on our hands.

It doesn't look like the trust between the two parties will be rebuilt anytime soon. Each passing day erodes away that possibility. The long term future of our club hangs on this conflict. We cannot keep going on like this - otherwise we'll sink while arguing whose job it is to bail.

It's time for change.

Ancelotti seems to be in the frame to come in this summer although i'm not sure why.

He is of the same generation as Wonky and also a bit past it.

Whoever succeeds Wonky will have little money to spend and an academy that doesn't seem to have any promising talent.

We could become another Leeds or Blackburn.

Losing to Forest should be a clarion call but it seems no-one is listening.

I can't say I am a big Ancelotti fan, he seems to have jumped from big club to big club with big budgets and done ok. But I reckon I could manage the teams he has managed and do ok too !! Its not like he did anything special or revolutionised any club.

Until Wenger and Kroenke go the future looks average, I cannot get excited about anything I am seeing at the moment.

Wenger's gone senile by selling everyone in the middle of the season when we have injuries and are still fighting on two fronts (technically 3) fronts and playing the kids in important games.

I agree with this. I bet a decent amount of football lovers with basic tactical knowledge could do well at these rich clubs. Get good staff, coaches and delegate. Would be interesting to see a supporter at the helm! Apply for a laugh.

I like Ancelotti but I’m a little fearful that we’ll just plod on with him. I think the fans need a bit of excitement and personality even if it doesn’t work out.

Hopefully some credible itk insider will publish an autobiography about this period in our history some day.

The last 6 to 12 years (depending on the amount of hindsight you allow) have increasingly felt like an unhinged downhill ride in a driverless train, culminating in this train wreck of a season (hopefully! please, no more of this madness!).

There must be one hell of a story to be told about the inner workings of how we’ve managed to go from where we used to be to where we are now. The amount of ‘crazy’ at work must have been staggering.

It's called rebuilding. It's well underway

This core was useless, we're building a new core to compete.
