Wenger pretty much confirmed he is better than holding and chambers

Wenger said the plan was to loan him but after seeing him training he decided to keep him. Sounds like he was impressed by the player's talent and thinks he might get game time in the first team. Nothing wrong with that.

True, time will tell, I hope he is a brilliant player.

Problem is Wenger's bad at developing new talent or facilitating the same.

Theo Walcott, Alex Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, etc. were all players who needed loan spells at some point, but he refused to send them on loan. The same could be said for Calum Chambers this season too, or Rob Holding.

This is Sven's signing, so I'm positive. We should have just listed to Sven and allowed him to go on loan.

Good news is Wenger is an expert on all defensive matters, he's built his career on team with solid defences and top class defenders, if he's impressed with this guy he must be a worldie like Stepanovs was.

Everyrhing is wrong with that. This is a player olympiacos was not ready to pay more than 1 million for. This is a player who has about 20 pro games. The fact that we wanted him to go out and gain experience and once he started to train with us we realise he is not worse than what we have is scary. Any sane manager wouls see it as a wake up cal. Wenger thinks he has top class players and this is another one. I know which one sounds more realistic

Not even about that, mate. He's not better than Chambers and Holding at this point of time either, it's just Wenger trying to show Sven who the big man is by not loaning him out

I'm not fussed whether we keep him or loan him. If we have three senior defenders -- Kos, Mus and maybe Evans, and three junior ones like Chambers, Holding and Mav then that's fine. I'm also more open to trying talented young players than buying mediocre experienced ones like we have these past few years.

He's just copying Pochettingo down the road .... "I like to keep players with the club rather than loan them out if I think they are close to the first squad" ... difference is at Spuds they can learn from quality defenders in a side that has conceded 30% less goals than us for the last two years ... throwing kids in the deep end with feck all support? see this year's FA Cup game to see how that works out .....

Wonger is clueless .... if he wanted a first team defender he should have bought one (Evans) if he wanted a development prospect to go on loan then that's what he got .... to now try and change the goal posts? ... the poor lads fecked before he even kicks a ball ... either that or at 20, with no top level experience, he'll prove to be a world-beating CD .... that's one hell of a stretch .... more likely as with Holding the EPL will eat him alive and his confidence will be crushed .....we've got a whole squad of those already .....

Yeah to be fair our defence is terrible won't do much for confidence playing alongside keystone cops defenders.

Loan him out to gain a bit of experience and coaching. Makes no sense keeping him here for the rest of the season to keep him on the bench or playing in the u23's.
