Within the next few years it’s likely Mavropanos, Saliba, Martinelli, Guendouzi will be gone for peanuts when you add Ramsey, Gnabry and Martinez into the mix that’s a strong core of players all sold for next to nothing

Sure there replacements Ramsdale and White, Lokanga are around the same level or upgrades, but when you look at the fact that Odeegard is essentially a Ramsey replacement, Pepe wouldn’t have been bought had Gnabry been around to reach his potential.

It’s all just one big massive waste of money

You can’t tell me that had things gone different...

———-————Martinez——————
Tomiyasu—Saliba/Mavropanos—Gabriel—KT

———-Partey—Ramsey/New CM———

—————ESR/New CAM——————-

Not Pepe/Gnabry—-NEW CF/Auba—Saka/Martinelli

You can’t tell me that we wouldn’t have been better off with that squad and an extra £300 million to burn over the seasons on a proper Ozil replacement, an Elite CF to rotate/play with Auba, an Elite Cazorla replacement so Xhaka can go.

BTW that 300M figure is based of not buying Pepe/Ramsdale/White, some squad player sales who would have been surplus to requirements like Xhaka etc.

Obviously it’s not all Artetas fault as this started with Wenger and Gnabry then Emery with Ramsey, still though Arteta is continuing with that bad cycle and will continue to lose top players for nothing and pay over the odds for replacements.

Right now when players like Aubameyang, Saka, ESR, Partey and even Xhaka get injured there’s an instant drop in quality which interrupts the team. If we were smarter the last few years with our business we wouldn’t have this problem.

Remember the days when we were stacked with quality Henry, Bergkamp, Adebayor, RVP as a strike force, Hleb, Pires, Ljunburg, Reyes, Walcott on the wings, that type of squad depth needed to win titles, now as soon as someone like Partey gets injured we are panicking because Elneny is a massive drop in quality, compare that to a few years ago Gilberto got injured you had Flamini, Song and Diaara to chose from.

Anyways I could go on for ages with this rant but it’s going to take us a long time before we have a good backup in every position again.

Mavro, Gnabry and Ramsey were all too injury prone to continue with us. The latter still has significant injury issues at Juve, while the first two seem to have benefited from a different club's rehab and training process.

TBH, all that really matters is where we are now.
Don't understand the fascination of looking back at players that MIGHT have made it that we let go, or mistakes in the transfer market.
What's our team NOW? How is it doing and what are the prospects for the future. Important. The rest? Unproductive.
Also don't really know why a fan particularly cares about how much money we 'waste'. It's simply opinion. More experienced and qualified people make the decisions and they can't always be right.

I am more interested in the players we need to offload and who else we need to bring in - looking ahead 3 to 4 years.
Still a lot of squad turnover to go.

He's doing really well in a fairly decent league.
Surprised he hasn't had as much press as Saliba. He's been doing a lot better than him.
Not sure what the situation is with his contract.. whether we have an obligation to sell. Don't think so.
He's got 2 years left on his contract at the end of the year.
More good development by the club for one of our young players - let's hope he continues and we can either keep him or sell him for a decent fee.

That's why I think the club are fond of Holding- he knows he's a fairly limited defender so is happy to be 3rd-4th choice.

I think we should bring him AND Saliba back and let them battle with White and Gabriel to be FIRST choice.
That's what we want - competition. Any player who doesn't want to compete - and in turn run the risk of not playing - is not the kind of player we want at the club.

Arteta exiled Mavrapanos and Saliba while protecting Mari, Holding and Chambers. Say all you need to know about his judgment.

Looks like it was a good move for all concerned.

All except Arsenal fans who had to see us getting spanked in our first three games.

Agreed. Going to need depth as well as we will hopefully be in Europe next season. Depth chart of Gabriel, White, Holding, Saliba, Mavropanos ... quite powerful. Put Mari on a cheap contract and he can also stick around as 5/6th choice

Kinda got blazed up by Gnabry though, but to be fair, the whole of the Stuttgart team looked completely bamboozled by Bayern at times.

Don't know if the 'obligation to buy' means we have to sell?
I would bring him back and let him compete.
