Koke Martin pubber confirms Unai convinced the club to sign Luiz over other options.

Also fought strongly to renew Lichsteiner and dump 'cocky' Aubameyang for Llorente or Negredo.

Sacking Unai was our victory since the invincibles.

Hopefully nonsense but some reports saying an extension for Luiz is indeed on the table. 1 year deal as follows:

£140k a week salary (included appearance bonus)
£2.75m loyalty bonus (re-signing)
£4.5m agent fees
£1m performance related incentives

Total for the year: £15.5m

Total across two years: £39.5m

If this is true. Unai may have shat the bed. But Raul has turned the fan on full blast.

We are absolutely clueless aren’t we, is there any other big club in the world who is just poor at everything it does, the guy has been a liability, cost us big time last time he played and yet here we are again signing him up. All the mediocre guys get signed up, but the decent players walk away for peanuts or for free.

Arteta will be happy, he wanted to keep this guy on.

Apparently we want to get Soares signed up as well, what a mess, It’s never going to get better is it, which just going to become mainstays in mid table. Getting sick of this club, it disappoints at every turn.

Expected. It’s two years but they will announce it 1 year with 1 year option. I said before his agent is one of the most powerful people at our club

If Luiz's alleged "short term extension" is one that helps us see out the season, it'd make sense—depth-wise. A matter of having to choose the lesser of two evils.

If it's a deal that extends beyond this season it'd be yet another discomposing illustration of our ambitions and where this club is heading.

Luiz signs for another year, Soares and Mari to follow when the transfer window reopens next month:

That's probably our summer spend largely done, unless we somehow sell.

We got this over the line without a problem and looks like Soares and Mari will be straightforward too.

Nothing about Aubameyang and Saka, so I'd say it's not looking good with those two.

We’ve lumbered ourselves with average players we won’t be able to get rid of again, Arteta just as much to blame for this, he wanted these guys re-signed, just shows how poor a judge of ability he is.

Joke of a club to be honest, we’re paying our big money for substandard players, there’s no rebuilding going on, just a collapse down the table. We won’t be challenging for anything for a long time.

Absolute joke. I can't believe we have signed him for yet another year, he is expensive too, he will be a year older, and he is already too old as it is. I just can't believe how stupid we are, another awful decision.
