Ideally I’d like our best centre back to stay but I understand why it makes sense to let him go now, we are stacked at centre back with Luiz, Gabriel, Holding, Mari, Chambers Saliba, Mavropanos

For the sake of squad balance, wages and the development of Saliba/Mavropanos at least 2-3 centre backs need to depart this summer realistically that looks like Luiz leaving on a free, one of Holding/Chambers sold, Mavropanos going on loan preferably in the BPL

Then next season we’d have Saliba, Mari, Gabriel and one of Holding/Chambers to chose from, Mavropanos can always be recalled if we have injury issues

Anyways it’s just what I’d do no point in having so many centre backs just wasting away

As for Luiz he can he saw he conquered, easily top 5 centre back of the Emirates era, his leadership and influence will be missed, this where Mari will have to takeover as the senior centre back

Need a talker to replace him, Mari seems a bit shy even if he’s goat skills wise.

Yup, we need a right footer and a leader to play next to Gabriel/Mari/Saliba (is Saliba left footed??)

If its Holding we are screwed.

Oh shit so thats the perfect scenario, Saliba the leader on the right, Gabriel or Mari on the left.

Saliba is indeed right footed, but he does play the majority of his games for Nice as left centre-back (predominantly because Todibo is also right-footed, and less versatile).

Sounds like he could play either side. We need to see Gabriel-Saliba next season!

It would make sense to use Saliba next season the way we use Holding this season, rotating with Luiz next to Gabriel or Mari to ease him in.

The hope would be that by the end of the season the Gabriel-Saliba partnership would prove the obvious way forward.

Certain people were trying to say he’s our worst defender lol, fact is he’s the only leader we have at the back and brings everyone up a level similar to VVD with pool
