Szczesny woulda been fine if his dad wasn't so involved and he actually had a decent mentor/coach here.
Ospina was a decent buy for a backup
Really he inherited Seaman, moved on spectacularly well to Lehmann. Then came the Almunia blunder era which I would criticise him for.
Since then I think we've had good prospects and at least tried to get good keepers but, I think pre-2015, keepers were far less important than they are now, if you were good enough you could have a decent goalkeeper and win it all (see Barcelona with Valdes) . Nowadays the keeper is practically a sweeper/ball playing cb who starts all the moves and is vital for the top teams way of playing, hence Leno.
