After Coach Eusebio Di Francesco was fired, it’s reported director of sport Monchi will leave Roma on Friday, with Arsenal waiting.
The decision was announced this evening to sack Di Francesco after a 3-0 Derby della Capitale defeat to Lazio and the Champions League exit to Porto.
Monchi had always been a staunch defender of the tactician, but it seems as if he was over-ruled by other directors and above all President Jim Pallotta.
Claudio Ranieri will fly in tomorrow from London, where he was recently sacked by Fulham, to take over as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
Pagine Romaniste are confident Monchi will be going the other way, as the director feels he has no reason to remain at Roma and is ready to accept the offer from Arsenal.
His contract runs to June 2021 and it had already been reported Arsenal were prepared to pay the €1.5m to release him early.
The Corriere dello Sport, Tuttomercatoweb and mutliple other sources are now reporting Monchi will terminate the contract by mutual consent, as he feels he no longer has any power at the club.
The Spaniard had a vicious row with Roma fans who insulted him at the airport on the way back from Portugal this morning, shouting back at them that “in six months I’ll take on each of you one by one.”
He later apologised for “a moment when emotions ran high,” but insisted the words were “reported incorrectly.”
There had already been signs that Monchi was breaking away from the club, as he did not speak to the media before or after the Champions League match with Porto.
Unusually, Francesco Totti was sent to represent the Giallorossi in interviews.

Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Zaniolo are among the names Monchi wants to sign when he takes over as technical director at Arsenal, Tuttosport claims.
The Premier League side are on the verge of signing the famous director from Roma and he has already picked his ideal transfer targets.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Rabiot is one of the top candidates on his list, alongside Roma youngster Zaniolo, Ever Banega, Daniele Rugani and Nicolas Tagliafico.
