Let's be positive we still have a pretty decent starting eleven ...

up front we have Alexis / Lacca / Giroud / Welbeck / Walcott / Akpom / Iwobi .... provided Alexis turns up we shouldn't need the last four to play all that often ....

in the middle Ramsey / Wilshere / Ozil / Cazorla / Xhaka / Coquelin / Maitland / Reine / Elneny .... hmmmm Ozil is class but his mind is gone, the rest would struggle at Huddersfield, it's a big worry .....

At the back Debuchy / Mert / Kos / Holding / Monreal / Mustafi / Chambers / Bellerin / Kolasinac .... not exactly a brick wall but not a sieve either ....

In goal Cech / Ospina .... solid enough

however that's with the Spanish window still open so Mustafi / Bellerin may not be here in 24 hours ..... losing two more defenders would be madness ....

On paper this squad could get top four .... but will the mind-set be correct ..... we can but hope

how do you include reine adelaide but not nelsson?

and while I agree top 4 is doable with this team, the manager's a big problem

We've sold 3 defenders in one window, Gibbs, Gabriel, Ox (mid but used as RWB).

How do we possibly maintain a 5 man defence? one or two injuries knocks us right off.

Yes we could still do Holding, Mustafi, Kos with Mert as back up, Bellerin, Monreal and Koselniac as WB's but its cutting it fine.

Either 3-4-2-1 or we could do 4-2-3-1 which was our old formation season before last.

Our man power is more suited to the latter, but then without Cazorla, Ozil is really our only CAM unless we play Iwobi or Wilshere there.

Theo, Sanchez or Welbeck as wingers, Laca or Giroud up front.

Its just whether or not going 2 at the back will cost us goals, however fail to see how it could be any worse than now?

Given the players we have, we can still play 3 backs. I rather 3-5-2 than 3-4-3. Welbeck is actually a good option for RWB, better than Bellerin.
We have to sort out our defense at midfield first. 2 DMs (Coq and Eln) with Kolasinac and Welbeck as wingbacks. Only let Xhaka or Ramsey on when playing soft teams. Sanchez, Ozil and Laca will make something through the middle. Coq should always stay in our half to cover the back 3.

1:0 can always bring you 3 points.

We don't have the midfield to play open games any more.

BTW, put one of the CBs into midfield sometimes works well. Mustafi could turn to a DM.

Do we have a proper squad in first place now to analyze something.

We are a small club now. We have a squad good enough for a small club.

I don't see how we don't revert to a back 4 now. Wenger never liked a back 3 anyway which is why we get into trouble he reverts.

I think it's obvious we should switch back to a back 4 and I'm sure many of you do as well, but remember who is in charge. So don't be surprised if we stay with 3 folks.

We're an upper medium club to be more realistic.

TBH it feels good to drop the pretense.

No more thinking we're Barca or Bayern and wondering why we're not winning the league or the CL, Leicester has won the PL more than we have in the last 10 years than we have.

The last time we were an elite club was probably all the way back to when Henry was here, possibly even RVP, that's why we got to CL final and used to finish 2nd in the league regularly.

Now we're in the Europa and finished outside the top 4, battling Spurs for 4th every year, this slide has been coming ........ and its all Kroenkes fault.

I hope that b*stard starts feeling the squeeze in his investment when we continually fail to make top 4, that mother f*ker is literally capitalizing on our CL money every year.

The day the blood sucking board sold him the majority share we ruined Arsenal FC.

Squad is good in most areas. We're short on creative midfielders and maybe one center back. But other than that it's not a bad squad. We just need to be drilled better and keep focus through the season. Easier said than done.

For me

4-2-1-1-2

Lacazette/Giroud

----Sanchez/Welbeck

---------Ramsey/Theo/Nelsson

----------------------------Ozil/Iwobi

---------------Coq/Xhaka-----------Elneny

Kola--------Kos-----CB-----Bellerin

Back 4

Elneny the main stay, Coq/Xhaka depending on form and opponent

Ozil playing above our cm's in more central role, with Iwobi as his back up

Push Ramsey above ozil slightly to the right, with Theo and Nelsson as his backup

Sanchez behind Lacazette/Giroud slightly to the left with Welbeck as his backup

Lacazette up top with Giroud as his backup

For me this formation gets the balance we need.
Bellerin has to be discipline and pick and choose his moments to bomb forward.

You go through our central midfield options and it's hard to disagree with OptimusPrimett

Cazorla= Finished (sadly)
Xhaka=Shit (average)
Ramsey=Meh (brain-dead)
Coquelin= Shit (average)
El Neny= Meh (out of his depth)
Wilshere=Shit (average and brain-dead)

Where's the creative player? - Eriksen - Hazard - DeBruyne - Coutinho

Where's the defensive steel? - Kante - Alonso - Gueye - Wanyama

Our better players can't stay fit, and the rest are all jobbers, not real good and not real bad at anything ..... if you can't see that you've not been watching for the last decade ...

Truth is our two best midfield players - Ozil for creativity, and Sanchez as CAM - both play in our front three ...

Why? because we have Walnut, Welbeck, Iwobi as our options ... none of whom are close to an EPL striker ...

It's a bugger's muddle created by 'the world's greatest manager' .... and we need to get it sorted before the damage becomes a 20 year issue (see Liverpool)....
