Red Star won the first ever European Cup final I watched.

Also can we please Koln by their real name? Cologne

Isn't their real name the German one - Koln?

Easy. Just a shame we didn't get Rosenborg.

I was at this game v red star Belgrade in 78
It was a heartbreaker
We were without Liam Brady who had been sent off in the previous tie v hajduk split
He retaliated after getting kicked all night by a thug who was also sent off
In the days before the Internet a player received support from his fans in those circumstances unlike today where you are called a chav who should just let yourself get kicked.
His place was taken by a young man named mark heeley
He couldn't fill bradys boots
We lost the 1st leg in Zagreb 1-0
Hard to believe it now but the only coverage of this game in England was a 5-30 pm commentary on BBC radio london
I thought we could turn it round at Highbury and when Alan Sunderland scored with 20 mins to go to level the tie
A quarter final looked a possibility
But with just 3 mins left red star dealt a hammer blow
One of the architects of the victory was Vladimir petrovic who 4 years later would become an arsenal player
Even this Highbury game received no TV coverage
UK TV company's picked one European game and they went with west brom v valencia( highlighlights only) only finals were shown live
Red star knocked out west brom and reached the final losing to borussia monchengladbach
Vladi brought a bit of glamour to North London with his brief spell at the club

Why do people act like Europa is beneath Arsenal? We’ve won a single third rate uefa trophy in 70 years of European football. Winning it would be a great achievement, the best thing that has happened in well over a decade…but no, let’s focus on scraping 4th so we can be humiliated in the CL again…
The difference between Spurs & Arsenal is that Spurs fans know they’re a banter club, Arsenal fans are utterly deluded and think they’re among the European elite. Reality check, we have a less prestige in Europe than the pot 4 team in our group.

We should take it. After all we've won this competition before back in 1970.

I'd be excited about it if I thought there was any chance that we'd take it seriously and try to win it. We'll go out fairly early on after resting players for Brighton away the next weekend (which we'll lose anyway).
