This thread is utterly useless, like all such threads. Do you think AW hovers around GW trying to pick up tactical tricks?
Well, here it goes
Leno

Martinez

Mustafi Luiz PabloMari

Saliba .. Holding .. Medley

Niles Ceballos Xhaka Tierney

OseiTutu .. Willock .. SmithRowe .. Saka

Willian

Nketiah

Pepe ---------- Auba

Nelson ........... Martinelli

Reminds me of then days when everyone used to suggest 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 because Fergie and United were winning with it, fact is you can win the league with any formation you only need the right personal and manager, their is no right or wrong formation.

I have not read the second page of this thread yet but I doubt there will be a post better than this !!!

Absolutely spot on. We have been here before like you said, first Fergie and 4-4-2, then it was 4-5-1 (to pack out midfield which we did on our run to the CL final) then it was 4-3-3 because of Barca, now it is 3-4-3.

There is no formation that is better than another, they all have heir strengths and weaknesses. Their effectiveness is down to personnel and execution. any formation can beat another formation, on the day.

So, you either play a formation everyone is familiar with (4-3-3 if you are a Barca player) or you play a formation to suit the players you have. Round pegs in square holes do not work.

Gabriel, Holding, and Ox, at least seem to be benefiting from the change.

It has masked some of our weaknesses but its by no means perfect. A few additions and it could be a viable formation for next season.
Ramsdale
(Turner/Hein)
White Saliba Gabriel Zinchenko
(Tomiyasu/Niles) (Timber/Holding) (Trusty/Kiwior) (Tierney/Tavares)
Odegaard(c) —- Rice
(Xhaka/Lokonga) —- (Partey/Elneny)
Havertz
(Jorginho/Vieira)
Saka Jesus Martinelli
(Pepe/Nelson) (Nketiah/Balogun) (Trossard/ESR)

Not a long term option in my opinion. Better to buy a more defensive full back. Kolasinac is a start and maybe convert Gabriel to full back if Bellerin leaves and get a real engine like Pjanic or Keita next to Xhaka.

Seydou Keita is pretty much finished mate. A good player in his prime though.
